FREE AGENT SIGNINGS
Dennis Dixon (QB): Chip Kelly brings in a QB that understands the terminology of the offense and can help the entire core learn the system. Dixon may end up the starter at the beginning of the season, in a move similar to Andy Reid utilizing Doug Pederson in his first year as a Head Coach.
Andy Levitre (OL): The first order of business will be to fix the offensive line and Levitre is a versatile interior lineman, who fits well into the system and play both Guard and Center. Chip Kelly wants athletes that can get out in space and Levitre has done that throughout his career, first at Oregon and recently with the Bills.
Sean Smith (CB): Smith is a big corner who has proven to be very good but struggles with inconsistency. With the rebuild of a defensive backfield, Smith is a solid addition as a No. 2 corner, who can cover bigger WR’s in the NFC.
Ma’ake Kemoatu (DT): Davis will need to add depth along the entire Defensive line, as well as need big bodies to fill an odd front. Kemoatu can fill a void in the 3-4 as a NT or DT, while also playing DT in a 4-3.
Rickey Jean-Francois (DL): He really played well for the 49ers into the Playoffs and adds toughness to the Defensive Line. His versatility along the line will be adorned by Billy Davis, who could use him in a role like Darnell Dockett
Louis Delmas (S): Delmas is one of the best Safeties in the league when he can stay on the field; which is a problem. His sure tackling and ability to stick with athletic Tight Ends is exactly what the Eagles need on the defense. They will get him for cheaper then some of the big name safeties available but could pay off the most in the end.
TRADES:
Eagles trade Nick Foles to the Kansas City Chiefs for 3rd Round pick and conditional 2014 4th Round Pick.
Eagles trade 2nd Round Pick (35) to the Miami Dolphins for 2nd Round Pick (44) and 4th Round Pick (108)
Draft:
1 (4): Dee Milliner (CB Alabama)- The Eagles get the best corner and continue rebuilding there Defense. His ability in man coverage, with his speed, makes him ideal to cover the big name Wide Outs in the league. With both DRC and Nnamdi let go, they get the shut-down corner they sorely needed when bringing those two in..
2(35): Kyle Long (OL Oregon)- Long is another versatile Offensive lineman, who could develop into a top flight LT with a couple years. He adds depth for the immediate future, and could be an insurance policy in case Peters cannot make it back.
3 (97): Ryan Nassib (QB Syracuse): Chip Kelly and staff seems to like Nassip’s ability, especially in the spread. He is a really smart kid who the Eagles give time to develop him as a possible face to the Franchise.
3 (99): Baccari Rambo (S Georgia)- Rambo is a team captain and sure tackler coming out of the SEC. He adds leadership, as well as having high potential to become a dominant Safety in the league, with his skill set agains the run and pass.
4 (100): Kwame Geathers (DT Georgia)- Geathers is a natural Nose Tackle in the 3-4 and will be the space eater needed in Davis’ scheme.
4 (110): Cornelius Washington (OLB Georgia)- Washington will fit in nicely having played the SAM position in college, where his job will be stuff the run first.
5 (131): Joseph Fauria (TE UCLA): He is a big target but has the ability to stretch the field. Chip Kelly watched him in the Pac 12, as he terrorized defenses with his athletic abilty.
6 (163): Zeke Motta (S Notre Dame): Motta plays very similar to Eric Weddle and could become an impact player in a couple years. He will also help the special teams as well.
6 (188): Michael Mauti (LB Penn State)- Mauti is not the most physically imposing LB, but is a leader and fits into the 3-4 scheme.
7(195): Reid Fragel (OT Ohio State): Depth along the offensive line, will most likely be a practice squad player for a couple years.

| Milliner ran a good time today, but I hate the pick. He isn't a shutdown corner, therefore he doesn't deserve a top 5 pick. He is going to be a good corner in the NFL, but we can get someone that will be just as good as him in round 2. |

To quote our masterful GM the big board doesn't change at the combine, it just confirms our scouting. These guys have 5 years of tape on prospects now, our opinions shouldn't change based on 3 days of the underwear olympics _________________

I think the combine does allow for extraneous performances to highlight some players as standouts thus shifting the draft boards a little bit.
Otherwise, why even have a draft combine that basically every coach attends? _________________

Geathers is not a natural 3-4 NT.
He doesn't have a low enough center. |

I agree. Also, the five years of game tape is against teams that have widely different ranges of talent. A player could have a monster game, but who was he playing against? In the NCAA, the overall speed and athleticism of the opposing team can make a player look better than he actually is, or expose a player that is not as athletic as he looked against less talented teams (e.g. Te-O vs. Alabama). Te-O's poor play in that game makes more sense after seeing him run a 4.82, he was out of his league talent-wise and I don't know why any team would take him in the first round now.
So to supplement all that game tape, which shows knowledge and instinct, we have the combine, which measures raw physical talent. Both are necessary to gauge whether or not a player has what it takes to compete against NFL talent. _________________

They have the combine for three reasons, from the NFL's point of view, money and advertising, people watch it - how many on here have, because the "amateur scouts" want as much info as they can get their hands on. The fact that people watch it means that they can sell the time on the TV schedule, that's ironically their own channel.
The third reason is primarily its a chance for the teams to get up close and personal with the players, something they can't do while they are still at college.
I have no doubt that the bolded statement above was already known by NFL teams, maybe not to the extent that they could tell you exactly how fast he was, The simple fact is that whatever draft boards are put together by people who don't work for NFL teams, aren't done in the same way. I would take a pretty good bet that the way he answered the questions about his "fake GF" will bear more resemblance to where he is drafted, than his slow 40 time, the teams would have already known that he was slow.
At the same time, there will be players that rise up boards because of their workouts at the combine, and there will always be players that this is the case of. Take a look at two prospects, JPP and Vernon Gholston, both excelled at the combine, both shot up boards, one was a complete bust, one has become a top player. That's always going to be the case, but for the main, with the majority of prospects they will be picked exactly where most teams thought they would be picked, other than players that teams reach on.
Really this should of course be in the draft prospects thread, and not this mock draft, I just don't think the previous days will make a lot of difference, other than confirming if players are fast, slow, athletic, not, have good hands, etc. But then the big boys in the NFL already know all of this _________________

Agreed on the fact that the combine doesn't really do much. I honestly think that most teams consider the interviews that go on at the combine to be one of the most important parts. Matt Barkley interviewed really well at the combine, and now he is being discussed as a possibility at #7 for the Cardinals. He didn't even work out. The combine workouts honestly don't say that much. |
