| Quote: | | Per @SI_PeterKing, Patriots QB Tom Brady signs contract extension. |
| Quote: | | Tom Brady had salary cap charges of approx $22m in 2013 and 2014. That was a huge number and likely sparked contract extension talks. |
| Quote: | | An extension for Brady gives the Patriots more cap room and puts them in position to have big flexibility in building their team |
| Quote: | | Amazingly, according to the source, the deal is for an eye-poppingly conservative $27 million, which is less than half his worth by any measure. |
| Quote: | CAP HITS
2013: $13.8 million
2014: $14.8 million
2015: $13 million
2016: $14 million
2017: $15 million |
Saves us over $8m in cap space this year and over $7m the following year. What a steal of a deal _________________

Ensures he's retiring a Patriot, gives us more cap room.
I love TFB. _________________

awesome move by the management and brady.
now pats fan will most likely not have to worry about a "Montana to Kansas City" type situation with brady...but who knows XD
although this begs the question....how expendable is ryan mallet now? I know he wasn't officially pegged to be Brady's heir but this contract extension will really affect what happens to mallet now. |

I think they're definitely going to try to move Mallet.
Brady is a competitor, he hates to lose. He knows he can make money in endorsements and that the money can be spent elsewhere to better the team.
Favorite quote from the Peter King article:
| Quote: | | "To be the highest-paid, or anything like that, is not going to make me feel any better,'' he said in 2005. "That's not what makes me happy. In this game, the more one player gets, the more he takes away from what others can get. Is it going to make me feel any better to make an extra million, which, after taxes, is about $500,000? That million might be more important to the team.'' |

completely blanked out on this but yes, it looks like welker may be sticking around.
this move apparently created more than $20 million of free cap space this year |
