So, I was listening to a deal on the radio just now were they said an NFL GM predicted 15 DL to go in the first 50 picks of the draft this year. A thought popped up that I wanted to pose.
*Note, this is completely made up, just for ish and giggles*
If the opportunity arose were we could land both Warmack AND Cooper at the cost of our 1st, 2nd and next years 1st... Would you do it? How would you feel about it?
We dont have to hammer out the exact details, but something like we trade out 2nd and 1st next year to land another pick in the 15-20 range. _________________

I wouldn't be happy - TBH. Future firsts hold more value to me than I suppose others though. _________________

Yeah, I'm with MH. Sure it would be nice to fix both OG spots, but not at the expense of a future 1st round pick. If we wanted to go all out on the OG spot, I'd rather us take 1 of the 2 guys in the first round and then Warford in the 2nd or Bailey in the 3rd. Using 3 premium picks to fill 2 spots just isn't attractive to me. _________________

Especially with the lack of distance between Warford and the other two _________________

Isn't there depth at the OG position in this year's draft? That's my impression anyway. Given this, why sacrifice a future first-round pick when other OG prospects can be had throughout the draft? Sure, none of them are Warmack-type players, but there are some prospects that should be very good pros. _________________

I agree, but if you were to tell me we would get Lane Johnson/Jonathan Cooper I might agree to it and that is a might. _________________

| I wouldn't be happy about it. Warmack and cooper would be great but not at the expense of next year. The only time it would make sense to do something like that is for a SB run. But with the holes on defense and the OL, I really don't see a SB run on the immediate horizon. |

You view both players as 1st round caliber? Correct?
If so, then what you are really giving up is your second rounder this year. Just one way of thinking about it. _________________

Similar idea I shared with HT - - Would you be fine drafting an OG this year in the 1st and an OG in the first next year? _________________

It doesn't matter how you want to look at it, think about it or word it. Bottom line, I do NOT want to use 3 premium picks on 2 OG's. _________________

What is you draft OG this year, and look at OT next year. But if Free is cut you could see the Cowboys looking at OT this year in the 1st Round. _________________

Part of me agrees with you; but another part says:
"If we could have 3 premium OL under the age of 23... that sets us up for having a good OL for a long time" _________________

HT,
Were you shocked how Knile Davis performed at the Combine? _________________

sure. You know I'd be "fine" with it. My problem with giving up next years first this year is the inherent bust dilemma. Busts are inherent in the draft whether through injury or knuckleheads, drugs, etc. Its the Roy E Williams scenario. It may sound good at the time but there's the inherent unknown. Its tough to give up 3 premium resources for 2 players when there is an inherent risk that one of the 2 could bust/underperform. |

Nope. When healthy, he is an elite athlete. That's the problem though, he is hardly ever healthy. His injury report is longer than his stats sheet. _________________
