http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-combine-total-access/0ap2000000143397/What-would-Tannenbaum-do
In his mock draft yesterday, recently fired GM Mike Tannenbaum had the Jets taking Tennessee WR Cordarrelle Patterson with the ninth pick. He cited the failures of the Jets on offense last season and need of a skill player like Patterson. He chose Patterson over many notable players, including Jarvis Jones, Damontre Moore, and Barkevious Mingo.
I think it is very interesting to see what this team likely would have done if Tannenbaum was still the GM. I wonder if John Idzik will agree with his predecessor come draft time. Many of the same scouts and advisors that Tannenbaum worked with are still with the organization.
Do you agree with Tannenbaum's selection? _________________

If he kills the combine like most people think he will. Then I don't think I will have a problem with that pick in that situation.
While Idzik was with Seattle, then did a good job of selecting defensive talent in the mid-later rounds of the draft. After last season, I wouldn't be shocked to see our first pick being a offensive player. _________________

| It's logical. Can't hate on the pick just because he did it. |

Noway would I take a WR with under 1,000 yards with a top 10 pick... I want a Julio Jones, AJ Green type with a top 10 pick. Otherwise I will find a WR elsewhere. _________________

I agree. He might haves lot of potential ( so does Hill) but I rather we wait until the 2nd or 3rd and take a more experienced route runner.
If we took a Wr in the 1st (at 9) I would also go for Allen |

I would be fine with that pick. He did have just under 800 yards recieving, but he also had over 300 yards rushing, which most WR's don't, also he is a good return man.
I never had to much of a problem with Tanny's drafts, i would just be mad when he resigned the guy for a billion dollars. |

I was thinking the same thing, but you have to keep in mind that Hunter was on the other side of him and had a good season. Rivera wasn't bad either. So its hard to go by numbers on him. I'm believe in his potential, but I'm not as high on him as most people are. But if he was to run a 4.3 & 37in vert jump, then I can see why we would give him a shot. Patterson & Allen are both deadly when it comes to YAC. _________________

The real problem here is Dee Milliner at 2 and Kenny Vacaro going top 10. _________________

| I wouldn't mind Coradelle, but I don't see how the Jets don't go with a pass rusher. |

I think it's very realistic that Patterson ends up a Jet. Although Tannenbaum is gone, most of the front office remains the same. Terry Bradway, Scott Cohen, JoJo Wooden, Jeff Bauer all remain in-house, and they've likely been scouting Patterson all year long.
The biggest differences between Tannenbaum and Idzik won't be the type of players we draft, it'll be roster philosophy. As little cap room we have, Idzik will bring in 5-10 free agents for $1-2 million salary, whereas Tannenbaum was the type of GM that overpaid for the "top 10s" on the roster, and filled the rest of the roster with UDFA types or out-of-their-prime veterans. I think Idzik will look for guys like Ed Dickson, Eben Britton, Geoff Schwartz, Rashad Johnson... guys that may have talent, but either had an injury or never fully got an opportunity with their former teams. I also think Idzik will put a strong emphasis on the last day of the draft, something I don't think Tannenbaum truly did. Not that he intended to "slack off" on day 3, but I think Tanny valued UDFA more then he did rounds 4-7. Do you expect to get future starters in those rounds? No, but you expect to get competition. When you cut 2 of your final day guys before the season starts every year, you know something is off. |
