| Quote: | | Citing a source with knowledge of the situation, Thesidelineview.com's Adam Caplan confirms the Bengals likely will take a pass on re-signing Maualuga. |
The article also speculates that he could land in Baltimore.
Bengals fans, can you tell us a little of Maualuga's play? I know he was burned bad on some big plays and had a pretty poor season in 12-13 but this guy was a pretty solid LB ever since he was drafted and he's certainly young enough to bounce back from a bad season.
Bills are in desperate need of LBs and specifically an ILB that can kind of act as the QB of the defense. I loved Maualuga when he was drafted and wanted Buffalo to grab him but that didn't happen. Is he likely to get some good offers or has his play diminished that badly? I'd like Buffalo to try for him if he can get back to where he was and play better. |

From what I heard, he was awful last year. Not really surprised. _________________ With much cheese,

He started off pretty solid as a rookie at the SLB position. They moved him to MLB, but he never really improved. His play the last two seasons has been sub-par. His career is just not trending positively at all.
He's a replacement level player at this point. He'll bounce around a little bit since he was a 2nd round pick, but i'd be shocked if he turns it around. _________________

If the Ravens are unable to retain Ellerbe (which I think we'll be able to keep him), I could see us making a play at Maualuga -- similar skillset but would likely come cheaper. _________________

He'd be far more effective inside in a 3-4, IMO. _________________ much thanks to nobody on the sig. FF GBP Forum Wiki Page. |

I would be fine with flipflopping them as free agents. Maualuga would be much better in a 3-4. _________________

Ellerbe, IMO, wouldn't be a great fit at MLB in a 4-3.
And I wouldn't be fine flip flopping them _________________

I'd like to see him play ILB in a 3-4 defense. As others have said, it seems like a better fit. _________________ With much cheese,

Can't believe some people were bagging on us for drafting Laurinaitis over this kid. _________________

What about Maualuga's skill set exactly makes him a better fit for a 4-3 than a 3-4 defense? _________________

He's gotta be in a 3-4 and be attacking downhill.
He can't track sideline to sideline and make wrap up tackles. Put him in a 3-4 and blitz him aggressively inside and watch him be at his best. |

Agreed. He won't be a probowler by any means but used correctly/situationally in a 3-4 will make him a valuable asset to a team, especially at the price he's liable to be at (which is low). |
