Von Miller: 6'3" 246
Clay Mathews: 6'3" 250
Robert Mathis: 6'2"245
Shaun Phillips: 6'3" 250
Daryl Washington: 6'2" 230
If Mingo adds 9lbs, he'll be right where he needs to be.

I never said anything about his weight. He just isn't good at playing the run. At all. If he can't do it at the college level what makes you think he can do it in the pros where everyone is bigger, stronger, faster, and more athletic? _________________

Ansah had a great combine, but he does not look like a true 3-4OLB on tape. At the very least, he will be a solid edge setter under the right coach. He is very RAW. Drives me crazy. I wouldn't hate the Ziggy pick, but I don't think he will be the beast everyone is thinking.
I'm not a fan of Mingo. I've watched his tapes over and over again, and don't see much that makes me comfortable about taking him in the 1st. I only hear 2 things, "He's fast" and "He played in the SEC" . I hate that crap.
The Jarvis Jones situation kills me because I really like UGA, but he can not set the edge. The funny thing is some people rip other OLB prospects for using speed to run aroud tackles, but never say the same about Jones. That's all he does. Just watch the tapes. I look at him as a 4-3LB. His medical stories sound a little shaky.
There are not alot of 3-4OLB's I really feel good about as far as 1st round picks. I'll still root for who ever we select though. _________________

Where did I say he was going to be a great run defender in the NFL? But what makes you think with some NFL coaching and technique he won't be able to do it?
But I'm more worried about getting to the QB and producing negative plays than just setting the edge. While absorbing blocks may not be his strong suit, his ability to disrupt the line and create negative plays is just as valuable.
There's more to playing the run than latching on to an offensive lineman and fighting off a block. Being quick enough to get outside and turn a play back into the pursuit; forcing an OL to take an extra two steps to get to you and create a hole for other players; having a pulling guard reaching for you because he's too slow to get in the hole before you...all those things can't be dismissed. _________________ “You don’t burn out from going too fast. He'll get pushed out of run plays early on due to trying to over pursue off the edge
Mingo gets man handled in the trenches and will likely be used in obvious passing situations his 1st year. His weight isn't the only issue, he can be 250-255 but his overall strength is lacking
why didn't he bench today as well _________________

In 3-4 you always take the OLB who is a better pass rusher over the guy who defends the run better. Having a dominate pass rusher changes everything because it is a lot harder to scheme around that than someone who defends the run better. Plus you can hide player who are poor against the run pretty well (49er do it with Aldon Smith) _________________

Being an LSU fan i am slightly biased but either way my top guys for our system right now would be:
1. Mingo
2. Jordan
3. Ziggy
4. Moore
I personally think Jones, Werner and maybe one of the guys i mentioned go before our pick at 9.
Star
Floyd
Geno
Joeckel
Fisher
Werner
Jones
Millner
Johnson
Richardson
Warmack
Vaccaro
Patterson
All these guys are being talked about going top 10 so i think we will have plenty of options come draft night. i also think like in most years the ascendance of quarterbacks will hit and maybe one or two of guys like Glennon, Barkley, Nassib and Wilson may get drafted in the top 10-15. _________________

Mingo and Cornelius Washington had good combines.
Now Moore will fall to us because of a disappointing bench. _________________

I wouldn't mind getting D Moore at 9 (or Sio Moore later on since I think he had a great combine too).
Warren Sapp on NFL network said he only did 16 bench presses and he mentioned someone who did 42 who didn't make it so I think you really need to use their game production as well and Moore had a really good season.
The guy that stood out for me, in addition to Mingo and Washington was Jamie Collins. His broad and vertical jumps were unreal. I originally thought of him in the mid to late 3rd but now I want to re-watch some of his game tapes.
I also thought S Moore and Z Gooden had good combines. I was disappointed I didn't get to see Q. Smith |

9? We might be able to land him with pick 39. _________________

It's scary how similar Ryan Swope is to Jerricho Cotchery. _________________

Yeah, Moore might have fallen out of the 1st round. What is weird is that a rumor was started last week that he was not a top 10 pick which was quickly rebutted by an NFL GM.
Weird just weird.
Jets are in a difficult situation. Come the 9th pick the only impact player that could be there is Warmack. I take him. Just becuase he is the best player in this draft. |

I've heard a lot of Courtney Upshaw comparisons. Upshaw was taken with the 35th pick last year. _________________

I think he is more of a dynamic pass rusher than Upshaw but i see your point!! _________________

I know it's a highlight video so it's going to look good, but just watch the way that Ansah engages with his arms, drives with his legs, and breaks through blocks so beautifully. He's a guy that I hadn't paid all that much attention to for the Jets but I've really been rethinking that.
The comparisons of Mingo and Jordan here has been a good discussion, but I think they're two different players. Both are very fluid in their movements, Mingo especially, but Jordan could become an every down player to me, while Mingo would essentially be a pass rush specialist (as someone else noted). Of course pass rushing is more important, but the state of the Jets right now would suggest they need that "guy" for the OLB spot. Otherwise we're stuck with an incredibly cheap FA option on most downs unless Mingo can prove to be a true 3-4 OLB. I'd be happy with either at 9, to be honest, and I'm starting to warm up to Ansah who will probably be gone by 9 anyway. _________________
