Jets start working to get under cap, announcing release of J Smith, E Smith and C Pace, as expected. Bart Scott could easily be next |
| Quote: | Jets waived TE Josh Baker.
Baker, 26, was owed just $555,000 for 2013, but tore his right ACL during the 2012 preseason and fell out of the Jets' plans. He'll likely clear waivers.

Total Savings: $31.265 million in cap

Not sure who the third Smith is.
Calvin Pace and Jason Smith were expected. Both grossly overpaid. Smith might have a future, but Pace is washed up.
I am very happy that Eric Smith is gone. I have despised for years. He is not talented at all and does not help the team very much. I hope his playing time can be given to guys like Antonio Allen and Josh Bush.
Josh Baker is a bit of a surprise. He looked to be a pretty talented player. I never expected him to become a starting TE, but I thought he could be a poor man's Delanie Walker. _________________

| John Clayton says the Jets are still 1 mil over the cap with the cuts... can that be true? |

It's possible. They still have Bart Scott and any restructuring left to do, so it won't be that bad. |

| I actually like Eric Smith as a special teamer. He's a hard hitter, and high effort guy. Other than that yeah, I'm glad he's gone. |

| Add Scott to the list. The Jets officially released him as well. |

Thank you Idzik!
Good to see moves that everyone on this forum has been asking for being made. Now we have to get new OLB's _________________

Not sure why we are celebrating most of these were obvious cuts. We're still missing (or rather they are still on the team) Pouha and Tebow _________________

Rex loves Eric Smith. Cutting him was not a given. _________________

Cutting Eric Smith is a big thing. Tanny could have done it a few times, it a clear sign this is John's team now.
Although we were 95% sure these were comming, with the Jets, you never know.
I would let keller and Landry hit the market and focus on Revis. We somehow sign him and draft a OLB @ #9 and our defense could be ridiculous.
I dont want to overpay FA from other teams. Revis isnt quite worth what he's asking, but he's damn close. |
