Alex Okafor is the easy choice. The team was 28th in the league in sacks last year, and John Abraham isnt getting any older.
We usually draft four year players without character concerns, so Okafor gets the nod over Montgomery. _________________

The arguments for each of the main contenders:
Defensive End (Okafor or Jones)
Before FA, easily our biggest need (and we draft on need). Both fit the profile as high-character productive seniors. Depth at DE is shaky compared to other two possibilities. Youth is needed at the position. By far the most likely pick. Montgomery is not a likely pick at all, due to his documented work ethic concerns.
Tight End (Eifert or Ertz)
Gonzalez is likely to retire. Our offense is predicated upon a weapon at the TE position. Dimitroff has shown he is fond of skill position players with high picks. Negatives are the great TE depth in the class, the possibility of a Gonzalez return, and the lack of attention paid to the line of scrimmage (the cause of our last 2 playoff defeats)
Cornerback (Trufant)
A lot of Falcons fans will think I'm going crazy here. But if Robinson is cut (plausible) and Grimes is not re-signed, it could happen. With the CBs ages being 32,31 and 30, there is an argument for getting younger at the position. However, I believe this is doubtful.
I voted for Alex Okafor, DE, Texas, and he is certainly the "consensus" choice amongst Falcons fans. Interesting to note that two Falcons fans have posted reasoning and are the only two to vote for Okafor so far - while the TE's have 7 votes combined. So if you are voting/have voted for a TE, please explain your reasoning. _________________

Outside rush is anemic, voted Okafor. Montgomery looks the part but isn't as explosive, I can see him fizzling out in the NFL pretty fast. _________________

Yeah to bad this couldn't have stopped like 4 years ago,
Okafor is the choice. They need to upgrade their pass rush |

I'll take DE, NT, or OLB and be happy with it if the value is there in the 1st round.
Im of the small minority that thinks our DE's are atleast decent and are getting pressure. Although we can def. use a new one that has tremendous upside to replace Abraham soon.
The problem i think our D-line has is it's not getting any pressure or push from the middle of the line with our Dt's and allowing the Qb to step up in it way more often than not. We also need a big nasty in the middle that can handle more than lineman at all times and still get some push. Yo me a guy like John Jenkins could do this as could quite a few other big nasty DT's in this draft like Williams, Hankins, Geathers etc... So we can still grab one of those guys later as well so not that pressing of a need for Jenkins this early if we choose to go DE. Plus Nolan and Smitty have both said they want to and like to run more 3-4 set so a big NT could be high on the list for sure so we can be a hugely versatile defense according to who we play.
OLB is for sure a need and a guy like Arthur Brown would do wonders for us as well he could easily cover some of the TE's in this league which is where it has been hurting us awhile across the middle of the field.
TE and RB to me are too deep this year with talent in the 2nd to 5th rounds to take one this early and i think our offense even without Gonzo is gonna put up some serious numbers while our defense needs more work to get us over the next hurdle which it can and will be done under nolan i think. _________________

As a Panthers fan, I'd love for them to take Eifert (or any TE here, really). But they'll probably be smarter than that, and I went with Okafor here. Datone Jones could be an interesting choice too, really depends on how he works out at the combine. _________________
