What is the deal with all the love for Brandon Gibson? Did I miss the season where he did something? There are so many better options than this bum that hasn't done anything... _________________

gibson may turn out to be a better option if the Vikings cant land a top free agent WR, its not a given. Gibson is surely a better option than Stephen Burton, Devin Aromshodu or Michael Jenkins. _________________

Gibson was ranked #21 among all WRs catching more than 50 passes by FootballOutsiders.com, ahead of:
Brandon Marshall
AJ Green
Steve Smith
Victor Cruz
Anquan Boldin
Brian Hartline
Percy Harvin
Stevie Johnson
Dwayne Bowe
Greg Jennings
DeSean Jackson
Mike Wallace
Larry Fitzgerald
So, in reality, he's a better receiver than you think he is. _________________

Gibson's game reminds of a poor man's Anquan Boldin.
He's an upside pickup that can play a roll (move the chains) and not break the bank. _________________

Would you take Gibson over any player on that list? I sure wouldn't. Those rankings don't really tell the whole story. |

I would take Gibson over Hartline, Bowe, and Wallace. The last two mainly because of the salary they would cost, and I don't feel they would be worth it. _________________

Hartline is about the only one I would consider taking Gibson over. Yes, the others may cost more, but if you're talking talent and production, then Gibson doesn't hold a candle to Bowe and Wallace. |

Of course not, but if you're talking about production vs. cost?
I'd much rather bring in Gibson, who had 8 less receptions on 30 less targets + two more touchdowns, than Bowe as he would likely cost a fourth as much. _________________

What are your thoughts on Donnie Avery?
I like him as an option, around Gibson's tier. injuries and inconsistency have killed him but he looked like a nice underneath receiver (in the Vikes game) and he has good down field speed. Might be another option, could be a cheap one year prove it type deal since he hasnt stayed healthy. _________________

Avery is another guy who works best from the slot; I don't see him as an improvement on the outside. _________________

It might not be his best position, much like Brandon Gibson who is probably best suited inside as well, but Avery has flashed some ability on the outside. I do see him as an upgrade over the current outside receivers (though that isnt saying much). If he comes cheap and the team did move Harvin, its another option. _________________

Gibson is an outside receiver. Amendola held the slot, when healthy, in St. Louis. _________________

Right, but Gibson's skills suggest he might work best in the slot. He isnt a particularly flashy player and has always been more of a possession type player.
Avery played in the slot a lot due to Wayne and Hilton getting a lot more looks on the outside.
I like Gibson more personally, but I think Avery does have a decent amount of physical ability to get consideration on the market in both roles. _________________

I disagree on Gibson's skill set being a better fit on the inside, but that's personal opinion.
Avery has that blazing speed that everyone loves but he's got some injury knocks. _________________

Any interest in Steve Breaston?
I like him as a #2, an upgrade over Michael Jenkins and Jerome Simpson. _________________
