DRAFT
* trade down to early 2nd, pick up an early 3rd
2. LB Kevin Minter, LSU - the future leader of the defense. all around great linebacker.
2. WR Aaron Dobson, Marshall - long, lean and athletic. did well at the Senior Bowl.
2. CB Jordan Poyer, Oregon State - will battle Robinson for the #2/#3 spot. also returns punts.
3. DT Sylvester Williams, North Carolina - big body that can get to the QB. needs coaching.
3. FS Racarri Rambo, Georgia - should be a day 1 starter next to Smith.
4. WR Aaron Mellette, Elon - tons of potential. very productive. small school sleeper.
4. G Brian Winters, Kent State - very experienced, played LT but will kick inside.
6. OT Rick Wagner, Wisconsin - also very experienced, good developmental RT.
7. LB Kenny Tate, Maryland - SS/LB hybrid who brings a good skillset to a zone defense.
7. WR T.J. Moe, Missouri - shifty slot guy. strong hands.
UDFA. P Jeff Locke, UCLA - gotta get the UCLA kid to replace Kluwe.
UDFA. RB Robbie Rouse, Fresno State - small dude, big plays.
UDFA. QB Sean Renfree, Duke - seems smart, good size. Duke has nice jerseys.

Ya know, quite honestly I don't mind that offseason. If that is the worst we end up doing, I will be a happy man. Our WRs are obviously worse, but I think Poyer and Rambo would upgrade our DBs significantly and Minter and Williams in the front 7 would help too. Our defense could be pretty badass if that offseason went down.
Theres no way Love will be the starting RT going into next season. If Loadholt leaves, the Vikes will probably overpay somebody to come in and at least start on a 1 yr stopgap deal.
Dobson, Simpson, Wright, Mellette is pretty rough, but on the flip side Simpson can't be worse than he was this year, Wright is serviceable as a slot guy (though we mostly will run only 2 WRs sets), Dobson has some upside as well. |

| With Lewis retiring, I don't see Minter hitting the second round. |

In a disater situation, I would be against trading down. I wouldnt want to possibly dilute the talent on the board just to fill more spots with the players that left. I think it would be even more important to try and get the higher level players (in thinking long term now)
Breakdown the trade -- #23 (760) for #38 (520) + 70 (240)
Will ARZ (or a similar team) really want to do this trade? I have my doubts. _________________

Good thought process!
I think most of us understand the Vikes are challenged, but not as harshly some other teams out there. I also believe some of the pending FAs or RFAs will re-sign with the team because of the taste of success -- the belief in a brighter future.
Also agree that trading down isn't something I want the Vikes to do, although good players, even stars, can be picked up that way. For the 2013 draft, I prefer the Vikes watch the talent that falls to them. If it's a WR or LB in the 1st and 2nd, great . . . then DT/OG/CB etc. Eventually, they may surprise us and use a 5th or 6th on a punter, and I suspect Locke will not be a FA . . . lol.
Can we all agree the Vikes are set at RB, TE, DE and Safety? |

Not set at DE or S. All three DE's are free agents after this coming year and I foresee only two of them coming back; plus, you can never have too many pass rushers.
At Safety Sanford was better this year, but could still be improved upon. _________________

a rather unimaginative disaster, if you ask me.
where are the season ending injuries due to lawnmower mishaps, or the late night naked coach fast food drive throughs?

anything that ends with Erin Henderson staying on this team is a disaster. _________________
