I like it. They're hiring a young, upcoming coach who they tried to bring in last year. Walton has DC experience in college...let him develop his game under Fisher. _________________

I don't know why Singletary is a popular name. Do people remember him in SF? He was known for being a great motivator but a terrible Xs and Os coach. Why do people think he'll make a great DC? _________________

Exactly, even more so when he's never been a DC before, I think a lot of people don't realize this...
People fall in love with the names way too much... _________________

STUFF LIKE THIS LOCKS THREADS!
....you are one Justin Bieber line away from a warning my dear friend....
Anywho, I really like this hire. I think the only reason people don't like it is probably because of the same initial reaction I had, and that was how poorly the Lions performed this year. This is the same reason Redskins fans weren't too ecstatic about the hire of Haslett, because he just came off a season where the Rams imploded. Turned out to work for them though (sorta...). _________________

Obviously dont know a whole lot about him other than what we are all reading, But I share the sentiment that a few have already expressed, I like the spirit of this move. Going after a young, up and coming, hungry, and most importantly malleable. A guy who can cam in and oversee, while also keeping it how Fisher wants, adding in his own type of energy and mentality, but keeping the foundation & fundamentals the same.
We always talk about guys who coaches are connected to that they could being in (some already suggested Delmas) Im sure this case wont be any different on their relationships & knowledge of guys they coached. I wonder how much pull he could have on a guy like Justin Durant? But the guy who I really hope he could help us land is Kenny Phillips (back from their days at Miami) |

I'm really impressed with what he was able to do with a horrendous, injury plagued secondary last season in Detroit...
Also, this hire makes a ton of sense. He knows Fisher's system/style pretty well already from Schwartz. He's a guy who isn't gonna come in with an ego and way he wants things done like the bigger name DCs. This defense is gonna function exactly the same... |
That last sentence is the key to this being a good hire. I personally wanted to avoid anyone that would rock the boat too much (Rex Ryan). This guy should fit in nicely and we can continue building our team and system as opposed to altering it. I'm more than okay with this hire. _________________

He couldn't ask for a better situation to walk into...
He's got outstanding assistants (Wauffle, Bush, McGinnis, Cecil) to lean on for help.
Add in the youth he has to mold and develop, which he specializes in. I can't think of a bteeter fit on either side... _________________

I don't think you guys realize how great of a move this is for you. Trumaine Johnson and Janoris Jenkins will benefit a ton from his coaching and Finnegans already a great player. Add in your front 7 and that's one nasty defense. _________________ I <3 Kate Upton and Ezekiel Ansah, just FYI
