My guess is that Dumervil to Baltimore takes getting both Freeney and Abraham out of the picture, but that getting one of them (Abraham is my guess) is still more likely than not. I think the most obvious and most likely scenario right now is Freeney to Denver and Abraham to New England.

Seems like that's been the way things will go for awhile now. Freeney has more left in the tank as a pass rusher IMO but Abraham is a better overall player for a 1 year stopgap. I'd take either over Ninkovich as a sub rusher.

I could see us on passing downs having Freeney/Abraham and Jones as DEs on passing downs and having Nink play SLB.

But for a 1 Dimensional passrusher Dumervil is really overpaid.

The thought that the Pats could offer Emmanual Sanders to an offer sheet is still out there. While most of the analysis I have read believes Sanders is worth the 3rd round pick, I think I would much rather see the Pats get their wideout from the draft in the form of Hopkins, Hunter, Wheaton, Rogers, or Terrence Williams. What do you guys think?

At this point, I'm counting on two of the following five:
Lloyd
Edelman
Sanders
First round pick
Second round pick

We should have some idea on Lloyd and Edelman this week, I'd think, while we might not know on Sanders for three and a half weeks or the draft picks for a month. I think that outside of Edelman plus a second round pick, we could see any combination of two of those five.

With Jason Campbell signing with the Browns, do you still think the Pats will trade Mallet before the draft? Who else needs a QB desperately and isn't in position to draft one high?

I've never thought it was likely that they'd trade him before the draft and IMO the Campbell signing doesn't rule Cleveland out. They still need a young QB and their collection of crap (Campbell, Weeden, McCoy) doesn't have any long-term answers.

If Mallett goes, I think it will be in camp for a 2014 draft pick.

Tommy Kelly was released today...will the Pats show interest do you think? I never pay much attention to the Raiders except to say "Oh, they got blown out again." or "Oh, McFadden is hurt." or "They did what?!" so I don't know much about him.

He has some talent but he's lazy and an underachiever, and isn't worth the headache.

Exactly, seems like a lazy underachiever and isn't worth it, but he is a good interior pass-rusher, had a 7 sack and 7.5 sack seasons in 2010-2011.

Sandwiched between a pair of one sack seasons. He hasn't exactly earned that monster contract he was given.

Yep, no idea why he got it in the first place... no one does. [Al Davis smh]

Florio claiming the Pats still have $13+ million in cap room. They really need to bite the bullet on one of these veteran defensive ends and pay them what they want for one year, as long as it doesn't exceed $6 million or so (but preferably less). Especially since they can cut Cunningham and save a million when they do so. They'd still have $8 million or so to sign the rookie class and fill out the depth chart, which should be sufficient.

Freeney is reportedly seeking a $6 million a year contract.

not a bad option but if he's asking for more than 3 mill a season someone else can pay him that

The way the cap works now you push space forward. You have to have a cash spending minimum but your pretend numbers get pushed out to the next year. This almost certainly means the Patriots are at or near their final cap numbers soon if not already as their cash spending has been pretty significant this year. While they have the room to get a good free agent if I'm the Patriots I do not feel obligated to spend right now given the good signings they have had (mostly retaining folks.) They can lie in wait for a deal to develop due to flat demand or just wait till next year.
