This isn't going away until the PEDs do. The NFL (and we as its fans) has been living in a bubble of blissful ignorance on this front -- PEDs are responsible for the game we see today, including the inhumanly-sized men who hurtle at each other at inhuman speeds to create crippling collisions.
Until the NFL is willing to deal with PEDs in an honest and upfront manner (and they should learn from the MLB that if they want to come out ahead on this, they need to act first), I don't see widening the field as a bad option. |
I agree with this. Players are faster, bigger and more explosive. We haven't evolved that much as humans in the last 30 years naturally. They need to test for HGH (blood tests) and that will help solve a lot of the problems.
The hard part is getting any players association to agree to it. |
Sure let's just discount the fact that classically the NFL was populated by seasonal workers and NOW is populated by year-round workers. There's no difference between someone who trains endlessly vs a guy that does taxes four months a year at all./sarcasm | Yep. Plus the legal, healthy supplements are significantly better and more widely accessible/used. _________________

This is what came to my mind right away too. Lambeau would be an issue. There isn't a lot of extra room between the sidelines and the first row of seats. In stadiums of similar configuration you might have to remove a few rows of seats. Is this really something the league wants to entertain? Hopefully clearer heads will prevail. _________________

It's just a story. I'm sure the NFL considers using laser beam targeted footballs every season too. _________________

I think that the NFL is purposely putting some of these shoddy proposals out there that noone really wants to happen in order to document their consideration of various possibilities to make the game safer. They reject these proposals themselves, but it is now on the record that they considered them and the public response was sufficiently strong opposing them. They can claim that many of these measures would dilute the quality of the product and move on. A CYA move IMO. | the NFL proposed this? |
The article is saying they are considering or have considered in the past. My wording may have been off a bit, but i still hold that they may be purposely letting some of these ideas out there. _________________

| Bill Polian's been helping to make the game more 'safe' for over a decade now. Please just go away and fade into obscurity. |

get rid of protective equipment and you will improve the safety of the game, the pads don't actually help people, and it would make the game much faster as well. _________________ I survived Johannesburg, 2013. |

Perhaps they should try to make safer helmets first; ones that actually protect the most dangerous spot of the head (the temple) more. _________________ Come Follow My Oakland Multi-Sport Franchise! |

If nothing else, these threads serve to show whose grandpa's rabble-rabbled over moving the goal-posts back, allowing the forward pass, using helmets, using non-leather helmets, merging the leagues, etc, etc, etc
Some people just can't handle change of any sort |

Kam Chancellor is 230 and crushed Vernon Davis. I don't think weight is the only issue. _________________

That's why I don't wear seat belts and turn my airbags off, it forces me to drive more carefully. _________________

I have a feeling that the NFL is only making this a media buzz only to go forth with something less radical to implement so it's almost like they're making the public, players, fans compromise. _________________
