(Note: Credit to Spartica4Real for figuring out some of these cap casualties, I took them off his excellent mock!)
Cuts:
LB Jonathan Vilma - $5.9M
DE Will Smith - $10M
S Roman Harper - $5.25M
RT Zach Strief - $2.25M
LB Will Herring - $1.5M
Total Savings: $24.9M
Let go:
DT Sedrick Ellis - $7.57M
WR Devery Henderson - $3.25M
LB Scott Shanle - $2.25M
DE Turk McBride - $1M
OT Jermon Bushrod(with the Bears interested, I think he chases money) - $7M
Total Savings: $21.07M
Gross total savings(and capspace) = 24.9M + 21.07M - 14.5M
= $31.47M
Resignings:
S Rafael Bush - 2yr/1.2M (600k cap hit)
LB Jonathan Casillas - 2yr/2.2M (1.1M cap hit)
C Brian De La Puente - 3yr/7M (2.3M cap hit)
LB Junior Galette - 2yr/3.5M (1.75M cap hit)
CB Elbert Mack - 1yr/1.5M (1.5M cap hit)
OT William Robinson - 2yr/1M (500k cap hit)
Expenses: $7.25M
Cap Hit: $31.47-$7.25= 24.22M
Extensions:
TE Jimmy Graham: 5 years/$40M ($8M/yr)
Cap Hit: $16.22M
Free Agency:
WR Domenik Hixon - 2yr/$4M ($2M/yr cap hit)
Trades:
Chris Ivory to Colts for their 4th
Draft:
1(15) - OT Lane Johnson, OU: People will hate this. But with the possibility of Bushrod leaving, plus our cap issues, we need to invest in an OT. Brown hasn't been able to stay healthy at OT for the past two seasons (even though he gets first dibs at LT). Johnson has all the traits needed to be a good LT in the league.
3 - S Phillip Thomas, Fresno State: With Vaccaro, Jefferson, Elam and probably Reid ahead of him, Thomas drops into our laps in the 3rd. Really well rounded safety that can do everything and play both FS and SS.
4 - OLB Brandon Jenkins, Florida State: A guy with all the tools needed to be a top pass rusher, but lost a year due to injury. Athleticism, pass rush moves, he has both.
4(Colts) - OLB Jamie Collins, Southern Miss: And just in case Jenkins doesn't work out, we pick a guy who can do everything and is a late riser.
5 - DT Brandon Williams, Missouri Southern: A flyer on a guy who has shown some good things. More depth to the D-line.
7 - QB Jordan Rodgers, Vanderbilt: With Chase probably leaving for greener pastures, we take a flyer on a small athletic QB. Decent accuracy and underrated arm.
UDFA - TE Ben Cotton
2013-2014 New Orleans Saints:
QB: Brees/Rodgers
RB: Ingram/PT/Sproles
FB: Collins
TE: Graham/DT/Cotton
WR: Colston/Moore/Hixon/Toon/Morgan/Roby
OT: Brown/Robinson
OG: Grubbs/Olsen
OC: DLP
OG: Evans
OT: Johnson/Jones
DE: Jordan/Walker
NT: Bunkley/Williams
DT: Hicks/Johnson
OLB: Wilson/Collins
ILB: Hawthorne/Chamberlain
ILB: Lofton/Casillas
OLB: Galette/Jenkins
CB: Greer/Mack
SS: Jenkins/Bush
FS: Thomas/IAQ
CB: Robinson/White/Patrick
K: Hartley

Thanks for the credit and good mock. I just don't like letting Bushrod go and use 15 on OT. Use the Franchise Tag if you have to on him.
Also I had like 5 tabs open when I did mine to find out all the contracts, cap hits, FA's, etc. Lol it was a pain in the [inappropriate/removed]. _________________

I don't like the OT at 15 pick. The Saints have shown time and time again that we can plug in anyone at OT and get results. _________________

I think us taking Lane at 15 is a possibility. I don't think it's the best move, but Drew isn't getting any younger and we really need to invest in his future health.
I see no need to sign Hixon. Colston/Moore/Toon/Morgan are a solid set of receivers. Bring in a UDFA or PS squad guy to fill in that 5th spot.
I would LOVE Ben Cotton.
Not too happy with the lack of depth at the interior o-line positions.
Should be a solid LBing corps, like that.
If Rambo is there in the 3rd, I'd prefer him to Philip Thomas. Then we wouldn't move Jenkins to SS, which would end in disaster.
Great mock man. I don't agree with some of it, but I can tell you put a lot of thought and time into it. Great stuff. _________________

I'm confused about the cap number for Sedrick Ellis. I thought he was a FA now..so why would there be a cap number for him for 2013, much less a savings by "letting" him go. _________________ Adopt a Saint:

He's just basing it off of our 2012 cap numbers. Since we won't be paying that much next season, we can subtract it from this years cap to see where we'll be at.
That said, I think the 14.5m is how much we're over in 2013. Meaning those FA guys have already been removed.
Could be wrong though _________________
