What is it? Attacking 1-Gap? Depending on the scheme, what positions are we at need at? _________________

Don't know a lot about his scheme, but when I look at the Cowboys, our personel is very similar. Bunkley is very comparable to Ratliff, Wilson can play the Bruce Carter part with Lofton beeing the run stuffer. Galette is the pass rush specialist like Ware and we could draft Dion Jordan who could become our Anthony Spencer!
One player I believe will go now is Roman Harper. Trade him to the Titans for as much as we can get and bring in a safety via the draft or FA! |

MATT ELAM!!!! Draft him at 15, bring in Spencer (or Kruger) and we'll be off to a good start.
Cut some bums, and I love RR. :p _________________

Bunkley is as far from ratliff as you can get. Hicks is a better comparison to ratliff. Also almost the entire defense was already in place when rob took over so who is to say that's what he likes? _________________

I'm thinking Hicks may be NT next year. Then we may draft a 3-4 DE. Idk. It's up to RR. _________________

On the scheme, here is some excerpts from a blog(I believe I can't post the link) that highlights the hall marks of a Ryan D:
| Quote: | "Multiples": Ryan likes players who can play multiple positions and line up and move to multiple locations on the field
That concept leads into the next hallmark: Confusing the offense (i.e. the QB). He accomplishes this by showing pre-snap reads, then rotating coverage to put players in positions where the QB thinks they won't be.
Physical defense with attitude. This stems from Ryan's persona.
A free safety who can read offenses and play deep middle or a 'robber' position. When using a '46', you need a free safety who can read the offense, especially concentrating on the slot receiver and reading his pattern. That dictates whether he drops into a man-to-man (for vertical routes) or drops into a 'robber' coverage in the underneath interior.
Pressure the QB. Any defense that runs elements of the '46' are looking to get after the QB while simultaneously stopping the run. The trick? Having pass-rushers who can get to the QB before the secondary gives way. It can be feast or famine.
And the other thing you always hear about Ryan and his defense? That guys love to play for him, they feed off his enthusiasm and his demeanor. |
Hope that helped! _________________

I don't think Hicks has the frame to play a 3-4 NT _________________

The most important thing in Rob's scheme, is probably cornerbacks who can cover man to man and who can be physical with the WR at the LOS. Rob likes some blitzes, and for that he needs corners who don't need help
As for what he likes on D line, when he was with the Browns he used a big NT, with the Cowboys a smaller. But I think that a 3-4 only works optimal when having a big two gap NT on the roster, so I hope you will get that.
I wouldn't expect results from him right away, he runs a very complex scheme and it takes time for a defence to not get confused by it. You have to have smart players, who can get everybody in position. Also Rob loves players who can play at various positions so he can move them around a bit, and he uses the 4-3 a lot.. often just with the DE's standing up. I'm a big fan of Ryan, but he needs time to implement his scheme, unless he have learned how to boil his playbook down to basics for his team to be effective from year one. |

This just made Terrance Knighton my #1 offseason grab. We need an established NT, which Knighton is. As far as man to man, that's what our corners excel more so at than zone. Various positions? Ehhhh I don't know who we could interchange like that. I guess:
Knighton (assuming we sign him) plays NT and in our 4-3 looks plays DT.
Akiem Hicks plays DE in 3-4 and DT in 4-3.
yeah, that's it, lol. Also would be nice to get Spencer in FA. Always nice to have a guy who knows the system and can teach. So, the change won't be a big deal. Seems like we have the same needs we had before.

Tez could move around from ILB to OLB in 3-4 looks, and OLB to DE in 4-3 looks. _________________

I completely forgot about Tez! Yeah, he can do ALOT of positions. Well, I consider 3 alot. He is probably our most dynamic player in that sense. He can be our 'confusion guy' (whatever it's called. predator i think?) Similar to Aldon Smith. _________________
