Garrett to hold press conference tomorrow 13 Feb at 1400 (2:00pm for you civilians)
All of the assistants will be available to the media on Thursday!
#1 question to be answered, who is going to call the plays? _________________

What's the over n under on the following.....
"it's a process"
"we have to work harder as a group of coaches and I have to work harder"
"we are looking for the right kind of guys"

Monte Kiffin: Study Seattle D
| Quote: | | "I kind of asked him what our philosophy and what the look of our defense was going to be, and as a prime example he said, 'Go see Seattle film and you'll probably learn a lot from those guys and just watch how they move on the field,'" cornerback Brandon Carr said |
Interesting. Wonder if we will have a "Leo" included as well? _________________

So more bump-and-run coverages than Tampa-2 defence? _________________

I would guess so. Was a bit expected, with us having Carr and Claiborne. Have to utilize your players strengths. |

I didn't think press coverage was exclusive of the T-2. Chicago's been running the Tampa 2 for as long as I can remember and they use press coverage on their CBs. They can press in man or zone. Just like Safeties don't always play cover 2 in a T-2 _________________

I hope this comes to fruition. I was basically in love with what Seattle was doing at the end of the year. I would have loved to have scene them in the NFC championship game. That would have been one helluva entertaining game. |

If this is the case then Cowboys should be looking at S as a high priority in the off season, because they have nothing close to the S that the Seahawks currently have on their roster. KIffin wants smart, instinctive, ball hawking safeties which dont exist on the Cowboys roster. _________________

I think Church can do well in this scheme. He's a very smart player who is always around the ball. I do agree, though, that Sensabaugh needs replaced. _________________

Jason Garrett explaining his own ties to Tampa bay coaches back in 2004. He's more familiar with kiffin, marinelli than most people realize |

Garrett making it clear he had a relationships with Kiffin and Marinelli dating back to 2004 when he was with Tampa Bay...ie.. "His hires" |

So, to summarize:
- Garrett did not come out today and officially name Callahan as the playcaller in 2013. He did, however, say that the hiring of an asst. OL coach will allow Callahan time to coach entire offense and that it's something they will make a final decision and announcement by the time preseason starts. He did say whoever ends up calling the plays will be his decision.
I'd be very surprised if Garrett is the playcaller in 2013.
- Garrett basically used his last year as a player in 2004 as a learning experience to prepare for being a coach. Picked the brain of Gruden and other offensive coaches/assistants as well as Monte and Rod. So, contrary to what some may think, he's very familiar with both of them and it's a big reason why they're here.
- He emphasized the reason he brought in Kiffin is because of his knowledge and experience with the 4-3 and his defense's ability over the years to create turnovers and play smart, disciplined football. He stressed how Kiffin is a detail-oriented coach. Along the other reasons the switch to a 4-3 was made, was how the 4-3 is simpler to learn and allows a team to absorb injuries better.
| Quote: | | I think over the last six years we are 24th in taking the ball away. ... So, that’s another piece to this puzzle when you talk about the additions to our staff and how they can help our football team. Monte’s track record with his defenses is outstanding, and Rod Marinelli in Chicago – they led the league with 44 takeaways last year. Forty-four is a huge number. Just by contrast, we had 16 on our team, so that’s 28 more scoring opportunities.” |
- Said while he doesn't know Gary Brown personally, but someone he knew of and has always admired him from afar. Said he is very excited about his hire as much as he is with any new coach on the staff. _________________

I am still perplexed by the Gary Brown hire. _________________
