Which would put them at 10+ Million under the cap from cutting four scrubs

He played DE for the Cardinals before they moved to a 3-4 defense, but he was really poor at the position. |
He's not a guy that can give up a consistent pass rush, and he's not a guy that's explosive enough to get there in limited action.
He's really about as average as it gets. |

Don't forget about Tebow too, clears up another $1.5M, and Pouha is probably gone as well, which is another $4M.
While not ideal, it's not "cap hell". |

Well that isn't good for Shaun Philips. It's a good year to want a part time pass rushing 3-4 lb. _________________

Yeah, I don't know about that. He played the same initially for the Jets as he did for the Ravens. He was never anything special but was good at the dirty work of taking on blockers so other players like Ray Lewis could shine.
He just completely fell off lately and is horrid in coverage... |

Welcome to the world of "The Jets situation suckz" now
As to the moves -- obviously this was inevitable. Bad contracts leave a team no options in cutting several of them just a few seasons later. When you constantly restructure things in order to try and keep the team together, you're just pushing money into the future rather than making that money go away. This is the reason I never once bought into the "Tanny is a cap genius" bit -- he looked like a genius to people who didn't understand what he was doing, but it was no more genius than people using credit cards to pay off credit cards and continuing to spend money. _________________

Are you trying to imply that Calvin Pace is capable of getting near the QB? You would be incorrect. _________________

That much money are you kidding me? Someone, in this case Tannenbaum, must have been spending Johnson's money like a drunken sailor. |

Jason Smith would have been due $12M this upcoming season because of his rookie deal. _________________

In the case of Smith, we acquired him knowing full well that he would be cut after one season. It's not like we signed him to that contract or ever expected him to be worth $12M. _________________
