|
|
|
| Quote: | | According to a league source, the Buffalo Bills and wide receiver Donald Jones have been working on a contract extension. The two sides hope to have a new deal in place before the NFL free agency period begins in March when Jones is scheduled to become a restricted free agent. |
http://wgr550.com/Bills--WR-Jones-working-on-contract-extension/15475391
Jones is coming off career high 41 receptions for 443 yards and 4 touchdowns in 2012.
The former undrafted free-agent has 82 catches in his career but has averaged only 10.8 yards per reception.
***Update***
| Quote: | Bills WR Donald Jones is set to become a restricted free agent this offseason, but he will not be tendered by the Bills and will not be re-signed by Buffalo.
That according to Bills GM Buddy Nix
“We have made the decision not to re-sign Donald,” said Nix. “We’re going in a different direction and this move today gives Donald the opportunity to catch on with another team early on in the process. We thank him for his years with our organization and wish him the best in the future.” |

Do they really think teams will be lining up to give him a contract offer as a RFA? _________________

It is a passing league and if a team might feel like they can't land one if the big names they might make an offer as a #2-3 _________________

Or they're hoping to sign him for less than the 2nd round tender. He was an UDFA so that's the cheapest they can go to get any sort of protection. And as the #3 WR on a team that isn't terribly strong at the position, that might be a little pricey. |

Well, if they are getting him with a multi-year deal, they are in a much better place to negotiate. They could let him play on his RFA amount, but then would lose leverage after the year when he can leave as a UFA (or get franchised). He has an added incentive to sign a LT deal with a signing bonus rather than play at a 1-yr tender. _________________

Just because he was an UDFA doesn't mean he doesn't have talent.
He's a solid #3 WR and should warrant a decent pay day, he's not going to get a bank breaker but we need to shore up the depth we DO have. This is a decent start, though I'm hoping we get the deals with Byrd and Levitre done, soon. _________________

That's weird. Maybe he said he didn't want to be in Buffalo or wanted a long term extension that Buffalo wasn't willing to offer. _________________

I think it has more to do with our need for a bigger #1 WR. Stevie is more fit for a #2 role. Jones wasn't going to be that guy. _________________ MY PS3 ID: Tyroz21

So he was going to be signed and now he's nontendered? What? _________________

Who knows how much of the rumor was true in the first place. Most likely they told him "we'll keep you as depth if you'll sign really cheap, but otherwise we'll let you walk," and he chose the latter.
It's fully possible thought that they were planning to cut him from the go, and a leak that he was being brought in to discuss his future turned into an assumption that the Bills wanted to extend him. Regardless, he was the #3 WR on our depth chart, so he was probably considered a low priority. |

I wonder if they're looking to draft or pick a #1 up in FA. _________________

Stevie Johnson? |
Do you think he's a true #1? Having a good receiver across from Stevie would be huge for that offense. _________________

Stevie is the on Bill ever to have back to back 1,000 yard seasons. He's had 3 straight. I think he is a damn good wide out. Could be better if we got a competent qb. He would thrive in the slot. He gets off the line and creates space incredibly well. Those inside slants are his trade mark. If we were to throw a crap ton of money at Bowe, I'd he thrilled. He is exactly what we need and I feel like our offense would have playmakers everywhere.
Say we draft Geno. And sign Bowe.
Geno
Spiller
Freddy
Stevie
Bowe
Chandler.
Im in love. _________________
