I suspect Simpson to be the opening day starter opposite of Jennings. Obviously Patterson will get worked in, and Wright will get looks in the slot while in 3 wide looks.

Childs, if healthy, shouldnt have an issue grabbing that #5 spot over Stephen Burton and the rest.

He certainly could if he comes back fully healthy and Simpson doesn't.

Really? I thought he was still recovering from a back injury.

But even if, Simpson really isn't that good. He'll make a few highlight catches/plays, but he isn't much more than a #4 WR in the NFL.

I see more natural talent in Greg Childs than I do in Simpson. I'm not as confident as some others are that #81 will be able to come in and be a effective "starter" for us.

Ideally, you probably want Simpson to be a #3 or #4 WR. Simpson's 2011 season was very solid for a starter. Simpson doesnt need to be an "effective starter" id be content with him being an effective stop-gap player until Patterson is more able of taking on a bigger role. I do like Childs upside more then Simpson's but Childs is probably a long shot to surpass Simpson. At least early on in the season.

Simpson is going to have a good year. As stated, he'll probably be the opening-game starter opposite Jennings...but, once Patterson gets somewhat up to speed, I think Simpson will settle in as the primary backup outside WR.

I think if you plan on getting anything out of Childs, it's going to be in 2014, not this year. I think the best he can hope for is as a practice-squad guy this year. I don't see him even being a #5 or #6. It's not going to happen.

As far as anyone can tell, no one has ever played in an NFL game after suffering this [rupturing of both patellar tendons] injury. But Greg Childs seems unfazed.

Sugarman: “From our research, there have been two or three other guys who have ruptured both on the same play. But I don’t think you can predict what’s going to happen because the science is changing all the time. Surgical techniques get better, the athletes are different, the rehab techniques are different. You can use the history to give you an idea of the success rate, but you can’t make a determination on that because it’s not fair to the athlete, the physician, the club, the athletic trainer.”

Childs: “I’m the kind of guy who is going to make this believable. People are going to be like, ‘OK, we believe now.’ ”

If you follow Childs on twitter it's not surprising. The kid has been busting his butt trying to come back. I'm really pulling for him.

Yes. And I'm guessing he'll stay there for the first 6 weeks of the season.

To be honest, I'm expecting him to replace Webb or Simpson during the season.
