My dad was drafted by the Rams in 1947

I have on my wall in a large frame the following: My dads draft letter date June 26th 1947 to report to the Los Angeles Rams training camp signed by Daniel F.Reeves. With that I have the "The Los Angeles Rams Football Club 1947 Schedule". I also have the original mailing envelope with the Rams return stamp on it dated 1947.I have a picture of him suited up training. I had my brother in law who owns a frame shop put these together for me.
Here is why dad didn't play for the Rams and I understand.

Dad was in the Navy and he made some good friends, three of them very close. These 3 buddies would take dad up flying to log flight time. One morning dad wasn't feeling very well and stayed behind. That day the plane went down and he lost 3 of his best friends. He vowed that day he would NEVER get on another airplane again! This is where the Rams come in, During training they told dad he would be "flying" to the games! He said NO!
I don't fly! Dad kept his word to his 3 buddies and that's why I understand why he didn't play for the Los Angeles Rams.
Maybe some one out there could help me? Does anyone know where I can buy a 1947 Rams helmet? I'd like to buy one in my dads honor and put it next to his framed artwork. Or put me in touch with someone.

Fascinating story. Unfortunate what happened to your fathers friends.

In 1947, the Rams used a plain blue helmet. One year later, HB Fred Gehrke pained the famous horns on the helmet. Just something to keep in mind.

Thank You for the good information. If anybody else has comes up with more information I'll take all I can get. Maybe I should focus more on buying a Jersey and framing that? Might be easier to find than a helmet. You guys are the best! Thanks
