|
|
|
It is officially here - the 2013 offseason waiver wire. If you run across news of a player around the NFL being waived, please include it in here (with a link) so we can keep up with the players being released around the league.
| Quote: | It’s the day after the Super Bowl, which means that all teams can now release players.
For the 20 non-playoff teams, their rosters froze at the end of the regular season. Then, as each of the 10 non-Super Bowl teams lost in the postseason, their ability to cut players ended, too.
Finally, the Steelers can now officially waive running back Chris Rainey, whom the Steelers announced would be waived after a January arrest for domestic violence. (Rainey has since pleaded no contest to disorderly conduct.)
Some players have contracts with triggers tied to the start of the waiver period. Most notably, Eagles quarterback Mike Vick will have $3 million of his $15.5 million base salary become fully guaranteed on Thursday.
Of course, that won’t matter for the Eagles, for reasons we explained last week. Regardless, with the 2012 season now officially over, the 2013 offseason officially can begin.

Do you risk bringing him in this locker room with a good vets but also a more than likely rookie QB, or do you stay away from him? _________________

| I'd also say stay away, but he reminds me of an Andy Reid type of weapon on offense. Small, quick, shifty guy, a little bit like D. Jackson and J. Maclin. He's actually a piece we kind of need, but I just think he's too much of a liability. Hasn't proved he's a winning player at all. |

But we've already got Dexter and Wylie who are smaller shifty guys.
And Desean and Maclin are way more deep threats on the outside unlike Young who is more of an inside WR. I think we need to look for a taller speed guy for the outside, but Young doesn't really fit that mold IMO.
Also, just a reminder to everyone, remember when we drafted Dex that there were a lot of rumors that he would have gone in the next few picks if we hadn't taken him. The rumored team interested in him was Philly, so there's a decent chance Reid likes him still for his offense. _________________

| You can NEVER have enough weapons. I'd absolutely take a flyer on the guy. What do you have to lose? He'll get a "prove it" 2-3 year, where if he has ANY brain at all...he'll likely work his butt off to justify. Why shouldn't that be with us? If he's still a moron...he's gone. No harm done. |

Defensive end Frostee Rucker released by the Cleveland Browns.
| Quote: | The Browns announced Tuesday that they have released defensive end Frostee Rucker after one year in Cleveland. Rucker signed a five-year deal with the Browns last offseason, pocketing a $5 million signing bonus and $8 million in guaranteed money for his brief stay with the team. He was due a $2 million roster bonus later this week, so the Browns had no reason to see if there was some way to make it work with Rucker in the new scheme.

| Quote: | League sources tell CBS' Jason La Canfora that Jermichael Finley is not expected to be with the Packers next season.
Finley is owed a $3.5 million roster bonus in March in addition to his $4.45 million in 2013 base salary. Coming off a season in which he seemed to clash with Aaron Rodgers while recording just 667 yards and two touchdowns in 16 games, we could certainly see the Pack moving on. However, some local reports have Finley sticking thanks to a mini-resurgence late in the season. Expect the Packers to hold off as long as possible on a decision here, in part so they can evaluate the health of potential replacement Andrew Quarless (torn ACL). |
"League sources" is probably Finley's agent beating the drum.
Not sure if the Pack would outright cut him - but depending on when his bonus is due they may have no chance. Could be an option especially if Kevin Boss does not return (which I consider pretty likely). _________________ Be it known that this day, January 4, be known as Reid Friday from now until ... well, as long as it lasts ... |

I'd be all over Boley! 6'3 and 230, rangy and can cover. Seriously, that would be a strong signing and open up even more draft options. I think both the Chiefs org and fans alike recognize that position needs to be addressed. _________________ In Andy We Trust!

Young was claimed by the Rams - only team to put in a waiver claim.
Cheap contract: 555k plus about 150k roster bonus. _________________ Be it known that this day, January 4, be known as Reid Friday from now until ... well, as long as it lasts ... |
