A 2nd for Jennings for just plain silly. Do the math 13 or 14 million guaranteed for 1 year of service and giving up a #2. Besides, the Packers would have zero money for any free agent if they tag Jennings - again its a math issue. The team has to set aside money for the franchise player and any of their own RFA's they intend to put a value on plus their rookie signings.
You have (3) 2nd round picks and not one for perhaps the biggest need RB? I think that is a real miss.
An OLB in round 1 when we can assume Perry is almost like getting another #1 this year becuase he didn't play much last year - silly pick. To top it off another OLB is picked later which makes no sense. |
Actually, I could see it for a number of reasons:
1) Having a 3 edge-rusher rotation could never hurt us, see: Giants, with JPP, Tuck, and Osi. Just think, we could have our own 3-headed-monster rotation of Matthews, Perry and Okafor, except with OLBs, which is basically the 3-4 equivalent of a 4-3 DE.
2) It allows us to use a 4-3 formation on occasion, with Perry and Okafor lining up as DEs. It allows us to use some other new formations as well. Imagine Perry, Matthews and Okafor all rushing the QB at once... how on earth will opposing DCs gameplan for that?
3) Nick Perry said he wanted to play with his hand in the dirt, this gives him some chances to do so with us.
4) This ensures no significant drop off in pass rush if either Matthews or Perry gets hurt (provides great depth).
5) Matthews is our best coverage LB, having Perry and Okafor rush the edge with Matthews dropping into coverage on certain downs could do wonders.
All-in-all, a great mock. Love the first 2 picks, though the lack of a C is somewhat troubling, as others have said before me. | I wanted to include a center but had other guys I wanted to put in this one. Do think we acquire another center this off season though. |

But I am on board with a higher pick OLB. Clay is our best pass rusher but I think he could match up with a Vernon Davis, Kyle Rudolph, pass catching TE's of the world and be physical enough with them off the line and athletic enough down the field that we could possibly take some of those guys out of the game, 5-15 plays a game. |
My thoughts as well... I think he could pull it off, with Perry and Okafor rushing the QB on such plays.
We can also use 5 some LBer sets with this pick, like - LeBeau sometimes uses in PITT... oh man, imagine the versatility. |

This is the best mock I've seen yet. The only real hole the roster would have heading in to the season is interior offensive line. But they could alleviate that issue if Sherrod is indeed healthy and they move Barclay to guard.
My favorite pick is Travis Kelce. He is so underrated. His physicality is what really stands out when you watch him. He will mix it up with anyone. His size really jumps out on you and I feel like he's be the perfect compliment to Finley.
Only thing I wish would have been done here is a low level, developmental interior offensive line. It pains me to see mock drafts with us taking an interior lineman so early. But I do feel we are a bit 'thin' at the position. But I really like Lang, EDS, and Sitton. It'd just be nice to have some quality depth behind them.
And I'm a huge fan of adding a pass rusher to the defense. I view pass rushers to a defense like receivers are to an offense. They all have different ways of making plays, and the more you have the more dangerous you are. Would not mind seeing Okafor in Green and Gold one bit. |

I couldn't agree more with this though Okafor would strictly be a pass-rusher but I really like WHERE he's picked. he's a bit of a wild card given that he's the definition of a tweener....then again, so was Zombo. Pairing that with Williams and Kelce and that knocks out three secondary needs that we probably wouldn't have to address again in the immediate future.
I think the Faulk pick is a bit early but I get the logic of it. Personally, I'd go after someone later in the draft because both Bulaga and Datko will be back next year and Datko was a 1st round pick until a nagging shoulder injury sidelined him. I think the idea of a need along the O-line(other than Center) is vastly overrated despite the sound logic applied. _________________

Thanks for the response. I agree about Kelce, he looks really good. Very fluid movements on the field. As far as interior line, I think adding depth at OT also improves our interior if it allows Newhouse to be our back-up on the inside. Him focusing there is an improvement over anyone late in the draft IMO. |

What else can you tell us about fuller? See improvement throughout the year? Any hands or routes issues? |
Definite improvements throughout the year, some drop issues, route running seemed good, but I wouldn't say I'm an expert at judging that. Was the go to guy down the stretch in the passing game _________________

Great thought on the O-Line. It's going to be interesting because we have so man quality bodies at the position. People forget about Datko as well. I have some hopes for him to be a productive NFL player. The Packers are a draft and develop team, a nice jump is seen in a lot of our players from year 1 to year 2. Barclay has some experience on the interior as well, so options on the roster do exist. Anyways, great job on the mock offseason. |

We're not tagging Jennings not happening! Don't like this mock we need a center and there's not one drafted! Also TT likes his receivers in the early rounds needs a good one go replace Jennings which is not addressed till the later rounds just not going to cut it for the rest of the draft it's good. _________________
