Barrows believes we may have gotten a 2014 pick with some special conditions. _________________

This is from the "Deal done" thread

The 49ers have expressed to others that a deal for QB Alex Smith is effectively complete. Can't be finalized til league year begins 3/12 |

i wonder if we find out for sure before the march date... probably not
also being reported for a 3rd. just rumors though.
but thats basically a 2nd round pick. that is basically ideal, back of the first/top send is where i fell all the value is this year.
would rather have a pick next year (2nd if its really a 3rd this year) but i wont complain |

I'm thinking it will be a 2014 3rd. _________________

Is it smart for the 49ers to tell other teams that a deal is done? What if the Cheifs back out some how. Since it can't be official until 3/12 I doubt they would be anything written down. I could be wrong though, I'm not sure how all this works. _________________

I'd imagine the chiefs were the ones who let it leak but both FO are professional men and if a deal is done I doubt theyd back out now...but you never know _________________

idk. you could see it both ways. maybe putting it out there, now teams who may want him offer more?
but i think if 2 teams/gms have an agreement, i doubt one would back out. just my guess though _________________ ***WE RUN THE WEST!***

There can be a matter of professional trust among the front offices... so maybe we got a solid deal... talked with Alex out of courtesy and he liked the team.. so they gave their word. I don't see any good reason for SF to let this report out if they were still looking for leverage on another potential deal. All parties involved must be happy enough and committed. _________________

Pfff... Unknown Future #3 QB is so much better. Sure, he throws more picks, but he moves the chains. _________________

Why the heck would you want tolzein, the other backup is much better. In fact I'm thinking we should give Kap a rest every now and then and let him get a few snaps. _________________

Maybe have him run the wildcat too. A nice change of pace from the statue we have starting. _________________
