| Quote: | | Draftmetrics.com measured and ranked all 32 teams according to their drafting success over the last five years and the last 10 years. The Cowboys placed sixth in the 10-year rankings. |
When Parcells' drafts were included, we're ranked 6th. When Jerry runs them by himself with "assistance from others", we're 31st. Yep, he's sure getting better as a GM, alright. _________________

I hate statistics like this. And it has nothing to do with Tuna and Jerry. But it has everything to do with skewing reality.
The Chiefs are #1 and the Giants, Jets, Steelers and Saints are in the bottom 6.
It doesn't represent the whole picture. Especially since Tuna - as much as I praise him - missed on several of his picks big time. _________________

Yeah......that 1-15 record the Chiefs had last year really merit large success the past 5 years in the draft.......
I'm sure 2009 brought the rating down tremendously.
In fact looks like most of the recent Super Bowl winners on down on the 5 year list quite a bit. _________________

Chiefs, Dolphins, Cardinals, Browns are the top 4 drafting teams of the last 5 years? That's like a who's who of cellar dwellers in the NFL.
These rankings don't hold water, IMO. _________________

So if Jerry listens to Parcells takes Merriman instead of Ware, doesn't that mean our 10 year span would be a lot lower? _________________

Shoot, we wouldn't have even had Merriman if Parcells had his way. Its widely known that Parcells would have taken Spears with our first pick if Jerry didn't overrule him.
And Parcells is darn lucky we didn't miss out on Witten due to his insistence that we take Al Johnson instead even though we had a 2nd round grade on Witten. _________________

Oh Jerry, the last 5 years he gotten us the likes of Dez, S.Lee, T Smith, B Carter, D Murray, and of course they are all Hand picked by Him alone. Why can't you be like the Top 5 in drafting? How many of those teams made the playoffs this year? |

| Quote: | What’s the reason for such a high placement over the last 10 years? Well, look no further than the Cowboys’ 2005 draft class. The site ranked it along with the 2004 San Diego and 2008 Kansas City drafts as the best individual draft classes to date.
In 2005, the Cowboys drafted DeMarcus Ware and Marcus Spears in the first round, linebacker Kevin Burnett in the second, Marion Barber and Chris Canty in the fourth, defensive back Justin Beriault and offensive tackle Rob Petitti in the sixth and Jay Ratliff in the seventh. |
So the main reason we are so high over the last 10 years is due to the 2005 draft. This was Bill Parcells huh?
Demarcus Ware - Its a fact that Jerry overruled Parcells for Ware. He doesn't get credit for this pick.
Marcus Spears - Solid role player in his time here, but never more than that. Never lived up to his first round selection and has made zero Pro Bowls and zero All-Pros. (Total BP pick)
Kevin Burnett - Oft injured and not re-signed. Backup and special teams player.
Marion Barber - Very solid RB for us for several years. Provided toughness and power at the position. Great pick in the 4th.
Chris Canty - Solid 3 year starter with us before moving on to the Gmen. Solid 4th round selection.
Justin Beriault - Retired after Rookie season due to major knee injury. Spent entire rookie season on IR.
Rob Pettiti - Hahaha
Jay Ratliff - Perennial Pro Bowler and the 2nd biggest piece of this draft. Amazing pick.
Take Demarcus Ware out of that equation and I'd like to see what it does to our ranking. Parcells wasn't the draft guru some make him out to be. _________________

Oh no, those were Garrett picks. Anything bad was Jerry's pick _________________

So when Jerry is over ruling Parcells to draft Ware and Parcells is passing on Witten for Al Johnson, we're doing great. When we're pulling down Dez, Lee, Carter, Lissemore, Claiborne, Murray and Smith, we're terrible.
Logic - this has none _________________

Well, it's quite clear that none of you actually read the article or how the results were developed. Nice work on the fails, guys. _________________

So because we disagree with the article and results, we fail? Sometimes stats don't always hold truth, and I believe that this is one of those cases. I read the article, and saw how the results were developed. Doesn't mean that its the be-all-end-all of grading drafts. _________________

Plan, you point out we're ranked 6th when Parcells' drafts were included...but....

The reason the ranking is so high is largely in part due to the 2005 Draft, where it is widely known Jerry overruled Parcells and had the team take Ware at 11th overall, in large part the most successful pick out of that draft. _________________
