This is a mock draft based on the first 2 picks that I made in this GM mock draft.

Re-signings

DT Henry Melton 5 years 37.5 million/20 guaranteed
OG Lance Louis 4 years 14 million/4 guaranteed
LB Nick Roach 3 years 9 million/4 guaranteed
LB Geno Hayes
CB Kelvin Hayden
DE Israel Idonije
RB Armando Allen

Cuts

Kellen Davis [2.4 million]
Devin Hester [1.8 million]
Matt Spaeth [2 million]

Restructure/Extend

Brandon Marshall [4 years]
Charles Tillman [3 years]

Free Agents

OT Sebastian Vollmer [New England] 4 years 32 million/18 guaranteed

The Bears need an upgrade at OT as they cannot possibly continue to give help to both tackles. Vollmer is one of the elite RTs in the NFL and should not command the 10 million of a LT. Vollmer is an elite pass blocker and has shown it in the Patriots passing offense. We all know that Emery is a fan of the Patriot way and Vollmer has been schooled as a professional by the Patriots. Vollmer could also play at LT.

TE Dustin Keller [NY Jets] 4 years 18 million/8 guaranteed

Keller is a talented player that has been lost in NY with the Sanchez problems at QB. Keller has the athletic ability to stretch the field and to be a threat in the middle of the field and he should not break the bank like Cook. Keller is also a better blocker than many think because of his size.

QB Drew Stanton [Indianapolis] 2 years 4 million

A mobile back up QB that has won games in the NFL and he can dougie.

Draft

1[20] OG/C Jonathan Cooper [UNC] 6'3" 310lbs.

Cooper gives the Bears an athletic, versatile and dominant interior player that can help them at a number of positions. Cooper will play LG in 2013 and will move to center in 2014 to replace Garza. Cooper is a very good athlete and a premiere pass blocking OG that can hold up in a passing offense without getting beat and allowing pressure. Cooper allows the Bears to play the best 5 as he has experience at LG and C.

2[50] LB Khaseem Greene [Rutgers] 6' 236lbs.

The Bears get a young dynamic player to develop at MLB. Greene has the speed to play on the outside and the intensity and physicality to play on the inside. Greene is a former safety that can cover the way that the Bears need in their defense. He can learn for a season at SLB while Roach plays in the middle and can transition to the middle in 2014. The biggest question mark for Greene was going to have the size and at the Senior Bowl he looked quick and dynamic at almost 240lbs.

4. OG Jordan Mills [Louisiana Tech] 6'5" 318lbs.

Jordan Mills fits the bill of a Kromer OLmen he is big and physical, he comes from a smaller school and he is a mid round pick that can be developed to eventually move from OT to OG. Mills can compete this season, but he is being developed to start in 2014 at LG when Cooper is moved to C. If you got to watch the Senior Bowl Mills and Warford were physically dominant when playing beside each other.

5. WR Tavarres King [Georgia] 6'1" 200lbs.

The Bears need a deep threat that can stretch the field vertically from the slot and allow Marshall and Jeffery to attack the underneath and get yardage after the catch. King has incredible speed and runs good routes.

6. CB Nigel Malone [Kansas St] 5'10" 195lbs.

The Bears continue to add developmental players to develop behind starters Tillman and Jennings. Malone is a physical player that can tackle which means that he can come in and play special teams this season.

Depth Chart

QB: Cutler, Stanton

With that free agency, I really like the first two picks here. Watching tape on the LBs, I don't understand the Ogletree love. Think he is going to get eaten up by NFL OLinemen on run plays.
I'd take Minter over him. Might not be the athlete Ogletree is, but he's a better linebacker.
I like Greene more as well, and he could be grabbed up in the second. Think he'd be a great fit here.

Regarding the discussion of what guards would be available at 20, remember last year when many were certain that DeCastro would be gone by our pick at 19? And the year before when people were certain Pouncey would be top 10 as well? Wisniewski definitely going in the first round (That one was only a few of us)?

Nooooo, the best was Jake Kirkpatrick in the 2nd round, and the guy ended up going undrafted and has yet to play in a game. Laughing

I heard a rumor from Todd McShay that Cooper played 2011 at 320lbs. and dropped 25lbs this season.

If he can weigh 320lbs. or more than his listed 295lbs. does that make him more attractive to the Bears?

It really depends on how it looks. Warford is a bad looking 330 lbs.

I think we are going to struggle to find a good looking 300+ lbs guys.

I mean the best looking OLmen we have seen so far is Fluker who carried 355 LBs better than I carry 315 and we are the same height.

^^^

If it played out like that it would be amazing…tons of options on the board…

TE…Zach Ertz…Stanford
OG…Larry Warford…Kentucky
OG…D.J Fluker…Alabama
DT…Kawann Short…Purdue
LB…Kevin Minter…LSU
CB…Jordan Poyer…Oregon State

Any of those 6 would be great adds at that point.

Lets say we added an OT like Bushrod as our only non depth free agent.

Which one would you pick?

If we don't resign Urlacher then Minter...if we do I would take the highest rated guard on the board so Warford or Fluker.

These are the options that I see in no particular order.

TE Zach Ertz [Stanford]

Zach Ertz fits 3 criteria to by the pick for the Bears at this spot.

1. He is a consensus 1st round pick for most publications and experts. He represents a good value early in the 2nd round.

2. He is a weapon and Emery has talked at length about having more weapons and playmakers than the other team in order to win.

3. Trestman loves to innovate and he is constantly adding to his system and adapting. I am sure he sees what teams are doing around the NFL with big talented TEs and he will want to do the same. Ertz has the size to work underneath and he has the speed to stretch the field, both things that are important to the Trestman passing game.

LB Kevin Minter [LSU]

Minter fits the Bears for a couple of reasons at this point and he fills a need at an important position.

1. Minter can step in day 1 and replace what Urlacher did last season on the field. Minter can run, tackle and cover and he did it in the SEC.

2. Minter has the type of on field demeanor that makes him a leader and he plays hard and people follow him. He could step in and really click with a veteran defense in ways perhaps Ogeltree, because of maturity issues may not.

OG D.J Fluker [Alabama], OG Larry Warford [Kentucky]

If the Bears can sign a free agent OT they can look for OG talent which usually flows into the 2nd round of the draft.

1. Both Fluker [6'5" 355lbs] and Warford [6'3" 333lbs.] have the size and power to be the stout OGs that we have seen used in Kromer coached OLs.

2. Both can immediately from a physical stand point secure the LG/RG position depending on where Louis plays after his knee injury.

3. Both are high upside interior OLmen that could play at a Pro Bowl level.

How many guys would trade down with Cooper on the board?

We want someone like Frederick, but is Cooper not a much better version of Feederick?

I am torn.

Yes...

It all depends on Urlacher IMO...if we get rid of the leader of that D we have to replace him with talent...our scheme doesn't work without top talent as evidence by the Jags struggles trying to play our scheme for years.
