Awful run blocker.
Offers no RAC.
Not a threat down the seam.
Does his best work against soft zones in garbage time.
Myers is average at best, and "average" might be giving him too much credit.
I'm all for keeping him, but with no intentions of starting him, nor paying him as a starter. If another team is that misguided, let them waste their salary cap on him. |
This. Hopefully, someone signs him to a big deal and we get a comp pick out of it in 2014. If he stays, he won't come anywhere close to the production he had last year outside of Knapp's TE oriented offense. _________________

I agree wouldnt mind keeping him for cheap though.
Would like to get a Stoneburner or Williams if we can get them in later rounds. Both are good blockers. Williams is better blocker and Stoneburner is better receiver. |

Reece is a much better RB and H-Back than lead blocker. Give me a Jon Ritchie clone and let Reece play more RB and receiver. _________________

My thoughts exactly, and especially Seymour this offseason and with McFadden a year from now. Scheme for those comp picks. Give Reggie as many draft picks as possible. _________________

I agree. But he has good hands which is reliable for a QB.
I doubt he gets a big money contract. His season was solid, but he's not making the FA market salivate for his talents.
I think he's a fine TE for the offense. The issue now is fans think every TE has to be Gronkowski and if they are not a beast they suck.
Myers is right in that mold of a guy like Dennis Pitta in Baltimore. Not spectacular but a good pass catcher when called upon. If Oakland had better WRs, he'd be fine in his role. _________________

I think we need a new starter at:
TE- let Myers walk if he wants over 3m/yr,,, his blocking was horrible
WR- someone needs to take DHB's starting spot
RT- Barnes isnt bad but we need an upgrade
LG- Carlisle will probably retire
RG- I suspect Brisiel gets released
P- Lechlers been average for 2-3 years, he's not worth 3-4m/yr
DE- Shaughnessy needs to hit the bench but be resigned
DT- Seymours gonna walk
MLB- Good riddance to McClain
CBx2- Adams is a backup |

But keeping Reece at FB allows us to have him and McFadden on the field at the same time almost every play. Thats bad news for the defense seeing as they typically dont have to worryabout a FB. In essence, it gives us an extra target/runner. On any given play, the defense has to wonder if it is a hand off to McFadden, a hand off to Reece, or a pass in which case they have to account for two backs who are great receivers as well as our WRs and TE.
I realize Reece is no Lorenzo Neal when it comes to blocking, but in the PBS we will be running McFadden can do enough damage without a great lead blocker. He averaged over 5 YPC in two seasons in a PBS and that was with Reece as his blocker.

Not at all. On the contrary, Myers gets the benefit of his fanbase's rose colored glasses. Every fanbase overrates their team's players. We're some of the worst, imo.
Can you name one other team Myers could start for? I can't think of a single one.

If Myers were on Pitta's level, we wouldn't be having this conversation. _________________

We still won't have a strong short yardage or goalline game. That's my major concern.
You can scheme around Reece's lackluster blocking in your regular offense. But when you need that yard, and it's your goalline offense vs their goalline defense, is a converted WR really the guy you want meeting Patrick Willis in the hole? _________________

You do realize Lechler won't be a Raider next season, right?
Reggie stashed King on IR because he didn't want to risk losing him. He is, for better or worse, our punter going forward. I dunno if it'll work out, but the dude is abnormally ripped for his position. That's the purpose of the sig. _________________

Agreed. In my mock I'm working on, I just said this:
Quote: | Shane Lechler – He isn’t worth whatever he’ll want, and we have King for an inconsistent punter with a rocket leg. |
