Safety, without question is the weakest position on the team. I am not sure that you could salvage either Jenkins or Harper. IAQ may be half of the answer to the problem...but even that is questionable. He is certainly better in coverage than Harper...but not near the tackler. Raphael Bush may be close to Harper in terms of tackling and did well in coverage in limited opportunities.
Am I crazy to think that IAQ and Bush #25 may be our starting safeties next year? They really couldn't do much worse than Harper and Jenkins. That is a ton of risk, however, and I wouldn't think that an incoming DC would have confidence in Bush and IAQ without on the field evaluation. I think that Matt Elam could VERY easily be the choice at #15. I like him MUCH more than Vaccaro/Reid. He reminds me a heck of alot of Polamalu. Dude flies all over the field trying to decapitate people.
I would still like an elite WOLB like Dion Jordan...but a guy like Elam would probably be next on my list of likely draftees. |
