2013 FFMD Mock Draft- Part 1 (So far)
1. Manti Te'O
2. Barrett Jones
3. Cornelius Washington
4. Gerald Hodges
5. Joe Kruger

6. ???
7. ???

So far I think we've done a great job of balancing our picks with guys who have been productive with high floors and getting some high potential, high ceiling caliber players. I think both Washington and Kruger have great ceilings to them. They can really explode into some truly dangerous players at the next level. And I think the other three guys are all high level guys who are going to be instant producers for this team.

Whoops, something came up and I wasn't on to vote. db424's simulation is how I would have voted though.

Are the 6th and 7th rounds going to be an auction?

I would love to bid on Conner Vernon. Idk how everyone else feels but he's one of my sleepers for the draft. I think he plays with a chip on his shoulder, he's confident, and he's one of the best hands catchers in this draft.

I also think we need to nab a safety, we can vote on who we like there but I feel one of our auction picks should be there.

With the signing of Garay, idk if we really need to pick up another NT but Hughes would be my choice if that was the way we went.

I'd really like us to get a developmental LT like a Luke Marquardt or Jordan Mills (17th on SWDC list of OTs, 12th on Rob Rang's).

Other positions I'd consider are
TE (Ryan Otten or Michael Williams if we want a pretty much pure blocker)
FS (Josh Evans, Robert Lester, John Boyett)

Cooper Taylor is interesting from a Size/Weight/Speed standpoint.

Landry Jones is probably worth a shot as a 6th round pick, but that may be because I don't have all that much faith in Tyrod as a passer.

Even though it is nowhere near a need, there are also a number of RBs (Jamison, Stacy, Gillislee) and CBs (Simon, Davis, Hawthorne) that would be worth more than a late 6th as well.

Okay guys so we have two more picks left... the auction bids.

I think we have to assume that Robert Lester will be picked up by some other team. I think we have a shot at Montori Hughes with our 6th rounder. We have the needed depth at NT, but Cody is a FA next season and it would be nice to already have a young guy in place to take over that position, but still have some experience within our defense. He's IMO the BPA.

If we're interested in WRs, I think we should bid on Mark Harrison of Rutgers with our 7th rounder. He's an athlete, #1 receiver type frame, nice hands... he's essentially the Cornelius Washington of WRs. He has similar measurables to Da'Rick Rogers, but he just hasn't been as productive as you'd like. We have enough "established" guys, I'd love to throw in another option with Tommy Streeter, Tandon Doss, and Deonte Thompson. Hopefully either Streeter or Harrison would be able to put it together and realize their potential going forward.

That seems about right. Both are guys we have been considering for the last few picks.

I don't know if you did already DB, but could you claim Marquardt for us, I think we've got him know. My apologies if you have already.

We also need to figure out who we're going to use our last pick on.

I claimed him just now, probably right around the time you posted this. Here's the pick as posted in the draft thread, I just bit off of my previous scouting analysis from my mock...

The Baltimore Ravens Claim... and officially draft Luke Marquardt.

Quote:
The Baltimore Ravens select:
Luke Marquardt, OT, Azusa Pacific
6'8 315lbs, Forty: 5.21s, Arm Length: 34 1/2, Hand Size: 10 1/4
2011 Stats: 13 GS/13 GP
Career Stats: ? GS/? GP
Luke Marquardt, LT, Azusa Pacific (#77)

Strengths
- He's incredibly tall and has the long length you look for in containing the edge.
- His long arms will keep defenders from getting into his frame with their power moves.
- He looks very athletic for his size, nice straight line speed and some pretty good explosiveness coming out of his stance when pulling.
- He looks pretty well polished for a player who plays division 2 football.
- Former basketball player and former TE before switching to LT. So if he fails to win the LT job, he could offer value as a trick play option out of a jumbo package.
- Has been coached by NFL Hall of Fame offensive lineman Jackie Slater so you know he's receiving the knowledge of what it takes to be successfull at the next level.

Weaknesses
- Doesn't possess a strong punch to stop DL in their tracks.
- Frame is still very light, he will need to put on another 20 lbs before he's at a weight that should allow him to maximize his athletic advantages with more power and explosiveness.

Grade: B (3.3 pts)
Luke already possesses the elite size and athleticism to play in the NFL. The only thing left is to prove that he can react to that NFL speed and that he can put on the needed weight to be at his most effective. Luke looks like a small school player that already has a decent floor, but he certainly has a very high ceiling.

Player Comparison: Sebastian Vollmer

Looking at the depth chart our only needs left seem to be:
1. WR
2. FS depth
3. CB depth

I tried going after Robert Lester, but was outbid there as well. And obviously Hughes didn't work out. So at this point, I think we should target someone with a lot of potential at the WR position. Any "productive" college player still on the board at this point is likely to be some sort of overachiver that doesn't really excel at any facet of the game.

I think the best overachiever remaining is Conner Vernon. I think the most gifted 'talent' remaining however is Mark Harrison. Micah Hyde is probably in between both, but just at a different needed position.

My personal preference is to select the most talented player remaining- Mark Harrison.

Well with no specific recommendations other than to target Conner Vernon, I'll put a bid in on Mark Harrison. I just feel like not many 6th round WRs are going to develop and become top 10-15 caliber WRs, many probably aren't even going to be in the NFL in 5 years time.. Conner Vernon reminds me of Damian Williams, WR, USC (obviously a few years ago). Runs great routes, has very good quickness in and out of his cuts, very precise guy... but he doesn't have long speed to stretch a defense and doesn't have the vertical ability to really increase his catch radius.

I think if Peyton Manning/Tom Brady get a hold of him, he's Stokley/Edelman. And I think he could do some nice things, but Harrison has some of the top measurables in this class for a WR. He also has one year of good productivity... and Rutgers always seems to have poor QBs... and now their overall team doesn't appear to be as strong and well coached as a few years back, so I think Harrison is a potential sleeper here.

Just from quickly looking at Harrison I think he would be a fine pick, but my knowledge of guys at the bottom of the 6th is limited.
