Okay well guys I just want to make it known that I'll likely be posting the pick early.

Most of these last few picks are flying. There are only two teams in front of us and at the current pace, we could be on the clock by 2:30 pm...

So if anyone is planning on being active in the pick. Post your BBs before the hour is up. Because at 2pm, I'm going to make the consensus list... and I'll post our pick no later than 3pm... or as soon as we're on the clock... whichever comes latest.

I've got to say I'm really impressed with Kruger. I think he uses his arms really well and is quite stout against the run. I totally agree that he can put on some weight on his frame as I don't think it's going to make him any slower. Besides that I think he's better suited as a 3-tech rather than a LDE because he's not really fast or quick enough to possess a good outside rush against a tackle. However I think his speed will be more than enough to make life difficult for any guard he's going to come up against while his power will prove difficult for the tackle.

I think that if you allow the guy to sit a year or two to develop his NFL physique I think he can actually be really good. I definitely think he should go a lot higher than the 5th round.

I'll simulate the picks for the people who posted their BBs that list 3 of the 4 guys on this list so that when 4pm comes, I can just make our selection and be done with it. I really wasn't expecting to have to wait this long to have to make our pick based on how fast everyone else were getting their names in.

So here goes:

And of course DCarey20 and STrid you've voted so your list will be factored into the calculations as well.

Quote:
Joe Kruger = 2, 1, 2, 2, 1, 1 = 27
Montori Hughes = 1, 2, 3, 3, 3 = 18
Robert Lester = 4, 4, 1, 2, 4 = 15
Luke Marquardt = 3, 3, 4, 4,2 = 14

The pick is in, I skipped the Falcons and 49ers and made sure we got Joe Kruger. He was the pretty unanimous selection here.

Now I just need to beautify the pick and I'll repost it here.

The pick as posted in the draft thread...

The Baltimore Ravens select...

DE, Joe Kruger, Utes

I'm sure there are a few theories as to why the Ravens would go back to the Kruger well- some of them humorous, some of them logical.

Humorous reason- The Ravens are forcing the Krugers to play musical chairs. This isn't an actual reason, but we like the way you think.

Logical reason- Paul Kruger was an impact performer for the Ravens once he finally figured things out, so naturally the Ravens would be interested in those kinds of bloodlines.

Humorous reason- The Ravens front office understand just how difficult it was for Ravens fans to come up with one of the most awesome nicknames in sports for brother Paul, only for it to fall into the diabolical hands of some other team's collective fan laps. So to keep those idgits from stealing his nickname, Elm Street, they make sure they draft another Kruger... therefore keeping dibs on the name.

Logical reason- Joe Kruger is an athlete, looking at the tape, he's easily more athletic than older brother Dave Kruger (though tbf Dave is at short and about 20 lbs heavier) and looks more athletic than Paul. The combine measurements support the view that he's the most athletic Kruger.

Reasons aside. Joe Kruger in the 5th round of the draft is a steal. Honestly, I have a 2nd round grade on him. He's 6'6" 270 lbs with long arms. He does well with stacking and shedding blocks. He doesn't possess the same weakness as his brother Paul in that respect as he plays with great leverage. As a pass rusher he has a very good first step to gain some space on an OT. He not only has great length but does a great job with using his hands, keeping them active. He can play with power and bull rush as well as rush with finesse. At this point, Kruger is a little bit of a project as you'd like him to gain at least 20 lbs before moving him over to 34 DE.

But as a 34 DE, I see him working best as a 1 gap, 5 tech... or utilizing him by placing him in 4 or 6 technique. I think his best suit would be in a role similar to how the 49ers utilize Justin Smith and how the Texans use JJ Watt. Within the 43, I think Joe Kruger reminds me a lot of Jared Allen. Relentless, size, length, strength, leverage. Make no mistake about it, Joe Kruger is a steal in the 5th round... and we're extremely happy to continue using the moniker, "Elm Street" from now and into the future.

Available Cap Space: $3,940,893
New Cap Space: $3,362,893

Thanks. Though we still have to put our bids in for our 6th and 7th round picks at some point. So that's left to discuss.

As of right now I think we should just go in order of how our 5th round votes ended and bid a 6th rounder on Montori Hughes and a 7th rounder on Lester/Luke Marquardt... though I'm thinking Lester will definitely be outbid.

If we could somehow manage to attain Hughes/Marquardt, our late round picks would officially pawn the entire FFMD.

But I'll post our picks to this point and update the depth chart.
