| I was worried for him before he was even drafted. |

Good glad to hear this. Sucks for him but I am glad they are making the right choice in this young man's life. _________________

As has been said, he's making the right call.
But man, it is a shame, the kid had so much talent. _________________

This really isn't news. He hasn't been cleared in what, almost 2 years now? He's been symptom free nearly the whole time too, which means there's some serious damage in his brain.
But, he likely wont actually retire. It is cheaper for the Lions to have him sit on the IR the whole year then for him to retire, so I think he might be be grateful to the team that gave him a chance and help us out a little (he would get paid too so it works out both ways).
I hope he could someow play again. He was such a great player. In the few games he was healthy he was impossible to stop. _________________ Kate Upton for sexy President!!!

| Never good to hear, hopefully he's proactive about opportunities outside of the NFL. This is how I expected football to end for Best, unfortunately. |

| Best is best served retiring. This year's draft is stacked at RB depth, the Lions wont have hard time replacing him. |

I still remember that Monday night game where once he got to the edge he was GONE. Think he had over 200 yards and broke a couple 70+ yarders, though I could be mistaken.
Would have been great if he could have avoided the head injuries. _________________

These issues are causing NHL players to miss at least 10-12 months of play. (For example, Sidney Crosby, Patrice Bergeron, Chris Pronger, Petr Mueller), but the NFL is clearing these guys (sans Best, he was out for months after his first concussion) after what, 2 weeks?
The NFL needs to take more serious action with concussions. I don't care if the NFL life of a player is short; cutting his life short to rush him back to play is worse. This league needs to take more precautions with concussions. |
Good post. I agree.
It's very unfortunate what happened to him but he needs to realize he has his whole life in front of him and he can accomplish anything he wants to. Suffering more concusions and seriously risking your health long term just isn't worth it anymore. _________________

Very sad. If I was him is walk away while you can still function and live a good life. He was very talented but for his best interest hang it up. _________________

Nothing is more important in your life than your health.
It's sad to see a talent have to retire but I wish him all the best in whatever he chooses to do. _________________

Dude needs to retire. Stop looking to get cleared. Cross that bridge and retire. Enjoy life and the money you have received.
He earned every cent he got and I got no qualms against him. Major red flags in drafting him and pretty much played out the way many thought with concussion issues.
Great talent but life is so much more important than playing for the...Detroit Lions...especially... _________________ AAL: DeAndre Levy 31 Tackles
