Not exactly ideal, but frankly, we were up against a team with a significantly better record and have been burned every time we have made an offer to a TA player by not offering enough guaranteed. It's not like it's a five-year deal, we can get out of it before the third year and only eat $3 million.
We have the youngest defense in football and needed to add a couple veterans. Paid a bit more than I'd like, but he's a player that we needed to add to free up our draft options and we had pretty much already missed out on our top four FA choices. _________________

Our deal was set up so we could cut him after a year with only a $500,000 cap hit or after two years with no cap hit. _________________

Makes sense. Honestly, if we were in your position, our offer likely would've looked similar. We knew it would take more money and more guarantees to get him to choose Tennessee over Seattle, thus the contract offer. _________________

And we signed Charles Woodson. Likely our final significant signing in FA.
Still, we've taken a young defense that had a clear lack of leadership and added three veterans that are still capable of starting and should immediately be great influences in the locker room. _________________

Just fyi Woodson is likely going to go to the talent agency.....Desperado has just been a little late on pulling guys for the TA...he just pulled George Wilson whos bid was lower than Woodsons _________________

Whatever though, I'm in no hurry to put together another pitch to be honest. _________________

And honestly, I still view Woodson as more of a corner. It's not as though we'd have him playing the traditional safety role, he'd be far more of a rover (similar to Finny in 2011). Oh well, guess we shall see what the ruling is.
However, if he is indeed pulled because he crossed the TA mark, it's going to be slightly disappointing simply because no one that was bidding on him suggested the TA and frankly, he'd been over the S mark for well over 24 hours at the time we claimed him. _________________

Personally, I think Velasco is best at center and that's pretty much the only place Raiola can plan. Wouldn't mind seeing us add another lineman, but I'd prefer it to be a guard. Though that's just one man's opinion. _________________

So, after the Osi and Woodson signings, we are now down to $6.4 million in cap space.
I posted this a few weeks away ago, think we should really go this route:
| titans0021 wrote: | Tennessee Titans Restructuring Steve Hutchinson
Current 2013 #'s:
4,750,000 salary, 1,500,000 prorated signing bonus, 500,000 roster bonus, 6,750,000 cap hit.
Two years remaining on contract
2013 #'s post-restructure
$940,000 salary, $3,462,500 prorated signing bonus, $500,000 roster bonus, Cap hit: $4,902,500
Cap savings of $1,847,500 |
Would then bring us back up to right around $8.3 million in cap space. With draft picks to be signed, it would leave us free to sign another three free agents for the minimum if we want to add some depth on the OL, LB or elsewhere. _________________
