I would rather have a proven, starting caliber 29 year old WR for 6 years than a 3rd round pick whp has a 20% chance of even being on the roster or in the league in 5 years. 29 is not old for a WR; most WR’s play at a high level until they are 35.
We can either get an instant contributor, or a 3rd round rookie who won’t be a factor for 2-3 years (if ever).
My plan would be to trade for Austin, try to sign Jennings/Bowe, and if we don’t get a FA draft a WR in the 1st/2nd depending on who is on the board. If we don’t trade for a WR and don’t land Bowe/Jennings, we will need to draft two WR’s early, and then we will be stuck with two rookies and Jarius Wright as our top-3 WRs, which would be even worse than last year. _________________

That would still leave us with at worst 4 more productive years, and with a team whose best pure reiceiver is Jarius Wright, it'd be worth it to get proven talent in exchange for a potential starter. I'm all for Austin. _________________

I'm a yes for Austin. We could also move back a couple spots in the first to get another 3rd. _________________

I had forgotten about the Harvin trade for a moment, with that said, I'm borderline on it, get a late round pick from them if you can (more ammo to move back up if need be for a target) and I'd be cool with it. _________________ Gnat's Movie Reviews

On a side note, did anyone hear Ricky on the radio mention that we still have our original 6th? _________________

By my tally that makes it 6-3 in favour of Austin for a 3rd. What is the GM's opinion? _________________

I will say this about Austin - he's rather affordable for a #1/#2 receiver
Cost to Us
2013 - $6.732M
2014 - $5.5M
2015 - $6.88M
2016 - $11.38M
Playing this out in the future; if he's good for us he doesn't see that full $11.38 cap number in 2016, and he would arguably give us the best outside receiver we've had in recent memory. I've sent a last PM to Dallas and pending what they say I can put it to an official vote. _________________

That is a very nice contract for a borderline #1 WR. If we can grab Austin and then Jennings/Bowe that would be awesome.
If not, we can draft someone and we should be in good shape.
Miles Austin
*FA/rookie*
Jarius Wright
Michael Jenkins
Stephen Burton (possible replace with late round rookie)
