I'll gladly scout whatever and whom ever, I'm particularly good at scouting Emmy Rossum and other potential Vikings cheerleaders. _________________ Gnat's Movie Reviews

Right now we are sitting at 16.48M in cap space. After we cut some of the dead weight listed below we will be at 21.31M.
PROBABLE CUTS
RB Joe Banyard - 0.405
WR Chris Summers - 0.405
TE Lamark Brown - 0.405
T Chase Baker - 0.405
T Kevin Murphy - 0.405
G Tyler Holmes - 0.405
DE George Johnson - 0.630
CB Bobby Felder - 0.405
CB Nick Taylor - 0.405
CB Greg McCoy - 0.405
P TJ Conley - 0.555
There are also a couple of guys we should think about restructuring/extending:
G Charlie Johnson - 4.5
DT Kevin Williams - 8
CB Antoine Winfield - 7.2
DE Jared Allen - 17.864 _________________

Is it too late to be a part of this? Every year I am tempted to sign up, but I end up never doing it.
I'd love to help out anyway. Considering it would be my first year, I'd love to help scout out to help ease me into the entire process of how this works. _________________

LB - Jasper Brinkley
OL - Geoff Schwartz
CB - AJ Jefferson
Players I would try and extend/restructure early in the process. (Order of importance / realisim)
DE - Jared Allen
DT Kevin Williams
G Charlie Johnson
CB Antoine Winfield
Players to be reevaluated at a later time:
OT - Troy Kropog
OL - Joe Berger
WR - Michael Jenkins
S - Andrew Sendejo

RB - Matt Asiata _________________

Play was clearly suspect this year:
Letroy Guion
John Carlson
Players who I would like to see retained longer term (at some point)
Percy Harvin
Chris Cook
Everson Griffen
Future still to be determined (currently signed):
George Johnson
Brandon Burton
Larry Dean
Stephen Burton
Audie Cole
Chase Ford
Joe Webb
[UMN] - List of Probable Cuts above is a realistic projection:
Everyone else on roster (not named in these 2 posts) I would consider adequate fits based on production (actual/expected).
[UMN] - What are your thoughts? _________________

I'd like to be an offensive positional scout... preferably WR, TE, or RB. _________________

We get two restructures, which I would use on Jared Allen and Kevin Williams. We can say we are extending them, which has a much better chance of getting approved than just asking someone to take a pay cut. If we extend Allen for 4 years at 8-10M per year that will drop maybe 8M in cap hit, and with Kevin we can probably drop him down to 4M per year.
With Winfield I don’t think we would want to extend him to a longer deal, and considering how well he has played the last 2 years it isn’t really fair to ask for a paycut. Also, Charlie Johnson is definitely over-paid, but 4.5M isn’t going to kill us and 1.55 of that is guaranteed so we can’t cut off too much anyway.
In terms of salary cap, there really isn’t anyone I would cut purely on salary. Michael Jenkins only has a cap hit of 1.49, and .667 of that is guaranteed. I would keep him. John Carlson has a hit of 4.25 but 1.25 is guaranteed. If we can trade him and get someone to take the guaranteed money that is an option, but I’m guessing we will just keep him. Kluwe is paid 1.45 so if we think we can get an upgrade in the draft or with a UDFA that is an option.
We only get a chance to re-sign 1 guy before they hit the market, and that has to be Loadholt. I would also franchise Felton; the franchise tag for a FB won’t be bad at all. Guys like Sanford, Erin Henderson and Brinkley will be able to be brought back pretty cheaply and I doubt there will be much interest in them. Schwartz and Simpson might get some interest but if we lose them it isn’t the end of the world.
Jefferson is an RFA, and I would say we should put the lowest tender on him. Sherels is an ERFA, so we should bring him back on that tender. The other two ERFA’s are Troy Kropog and Andrew Sendejo. Both are replaceable, but the tender is cheap and we can always cut them later. _________________

I would say our plan moving into free agency should be:
Cuts:
RB Joe Banyard
WR Chris Summers
TE Lamark Brown
T Chase Baker
T Kevin Murphy
G Tyler Holmes
DE George Johnson
CB Bobby Felder
CB Nick Taylor
CB Greg McCoy
P TJ Conley
Initial Moves:
Restructure – Jared Allen (4 year extension at 8M per year)
Restructure – Kevin Williams (3 year extension at 4M per year)
Franchise – Jerome Felton
RFA – AJ Jefferson (lowest tender)
ERFA – Marcus Sherels, Troy Kropog, Andrew Sendejo
Re-sign – Phil Loadholt
From there we can go into FA and go after whoever fits best. Our remaining free agents would be:
WR Jerome Simpson
WR Devin Aromashodu
G Geoff Schwartz
C Joe Berger
LB Jasper Brinkley
LB Erin Henderson
LB Marvin Mitchell
S Jamarca Sanford
None of those guys are absolutely crucial, and we could probably find cheap FA's who are either comparable or an upgrade. We can either target those guys in FA, or grab a replacement. _________________

Per the NFC North liason, a FB who gets a franchise tag is the same price as a RB, which is roughly $8M. We will need to try to resign Felton in Free Agency. _________________

What date does there Exclusive Right Free Agent status end (if we dont offer anything)? If its at a later point in the offseason, I see the value in waiting. I placed them lower on my list for this reason. However, if the decision needs to be earlier I'm in agreement with doing it based on existing roster needs.
Edit -- I see the date per FFMD is early, so I would be in agreement with ERFA all 3.
I think Winfield should be brought back at his price tag, as he was vital to this teams defense and was the most reliable and most consistent of all the defensive backs.
I didnt realize that AJ Jefferson was an RFA. So I would agree to low tender him early.
If we can get an upgrate in the late rounds for a Punter, I would be on board.
Carlson just didnt gel in this offense as we had hoped in our sets. I'm not opposed to keeping him, but its likely that he continues to see limited time due to Rhett Ellison/Jerome Felton emergance. (assuming he is retained)
I think Harvin, is going to come around and my preference would be to try and peice together this team with him slated as WR. Ponder's confidence grew as the season went on. Its clear he could use some help and a downfield WR would be benefitial to all of AP/Ponder/other WRs.
Also, it would be problematic to lose 2 starting LBs (Erin Henderson and Jasper Brinkly), entering the draft, without any Free Agent help. If we dont capitalize on Free Agent help for the LBs crew, I think we should be open to bringing back Brinkly before the draft. _________________

The issue is that we can only re-sign 1 player before they go into free agency. I think that needs to be Loadholt. First of all because he is more important and a better player, but also because if he gets into free agency we will have a big bidding war. For Henderson/Brinkley I don’t foresee much of a bidding war. _________________

I agree. We may lose Felton, but Loadholt fills a bigger need. If he isn't brought back, things could get ugly with us having another major hole to fill.
On another note, I think we should definitely be shopping around Carlson to see if there is any market for him. There may not be, but we have the standpoint that he gives us relatively the same thing that Rudolph does and that he could perform well on a different team. Both are true and I don't see the value in Carlson when we have Rudy. He's at least worth putting on the trade block. _________________
