When your team is out of playoff contention (meaning the playoffs are underway, and your team is eliminated or didn't qualify), do you root for or against your division rivals? I have always had more hatred for the Cowboys and the Falcons than I have for say the Cardinals. More than that, I take the term "representing the NFC west" in its literal meaning. I feel that anything that gets some recognition for a team not in NY, Dallas, etc is a good thing. I rooted for the Hawks (my most hated division rival) against the Steelers as well as the Cards against the Steelers a few years later.
I equate it to my own experience in sports. I tried out for the olympics some years back, but ended up the alternate (never made the team). Even though the guys who I competed with to make the tournament beat me, I still rooted for them to do well so as to make my status as their runner up feel like less of a failure. Also I guess if they won, I knew for sure I wouldn't have been able to do better myself.
I suppose I am just curious how the fans of the NFC West feel about this question. Fire away. _________________

You guys aren't the cardinals though, you're the 49ers. I even had trouble rooting for the cardinals against the hated steelers. I'm definitely rooting against you guys _________________

Just to be clear, this was not about the upcoming SB. Lets rephrase. If you hypothetically had no pre-existing rooting interest for a player on either side how would you side? In a bubble, for the NFC West or against your teams division rival? _________________

I hate the 9ers and Steelers (surprise, surprise)
I actually like/respect the Ravens, Jags and Falcons to varying extents
I would say that your analogy doesn't apply here. Both teams represent themselves, not a single country.
I will support the 9ers to make a SB, only to lose it though (can't have our divisional rival winning the SB after all) _________________

Definately always hope for all NFCW teams to go 2-14 and Seattle go 16-0. So no. If my team isn't representing the NFCW, I want all other divisions to win instead of other NFCW teams.
Unless it's Dallas. I'd root for SF over Dallas. because of the absolute blow up in the media if the Cowboy's won it all. Luckily that will never happen as long as Jerry is in charge there. _________________ Kam Chancellor-2012/2013 Season - 100 tackles - 1 FF - 2 FR - 0 INT

I love the Hawks over all other teams.
That being said I love the NFL and can normally enjoy any game.
Though I hate the Cowboys, Steelers, 49'er, Broncos were on there in the Elway years, now I have little or no hate for them. Never really liked the Raiders or Rams either.
Other teams I like on some level.
Bears
Ravens
Falcons
Panthers |

You'll never catch me rooting for the 49ers, ever.
Unless playoff positioning is involved. _________________
