Just looking for insight on how Bruce Irvin's season went.
I know the sack numbers 8, but wondering how he did on a consistent basis.
How much time did he play regularly?
Did he just come in on special packages most of the time? Did he play a true 4-3 DE with hand down?
How did he show up against the run ?
Based on his play this year how do you expect him to be used differently next season and in the future? _________________

| I can't answer all those questions, but I will say his sack number is deceiving of his actual production. He's got a long way to go. |

He played regularly on passing downs (3rd and more than 3). Sometimes 2nd and long.. He rarely played on 1st down unless it was late in the game and we had a lead.
He's not yet a true 4-3 DE. HE lacks strength and block shedding ability to be a full time DE.
He had a big sack against Cam Newton on the road, but other than that I feel like most of his sacks were a product of our home field advantage and being able to anticipate snap count. He seemed to be better in the 1st half then the 2nd half...maybe he hit the "rookie wall"?
I expect drastic improvement. Pass rushing in the NFL isn't easy and historically pass rushers improve in their Sophmore season. I don't worry about Bruce getting in trouble though, so that's a big plus.
I think the biggest factor that will increase Bruce's play is new DC Dan Quinn- he is a DL specialist and I think the entire unit as a whole will play better, but young guys like Irvin will be the largest benefactor of Quinn's hire. _________________

| he would greatly benefit if we got another pass rusher. he would always set the edge and rush up field. i think quinn being a DL coach will help |
