My favourite part of this idea, is we acquire Alex Smith who isn't exactly old...then spend 2 years developing a high pick QB whose biggest asset is pro-readiness by sitting him for 2 of the ~6 year age difference. Then end up with the next Alex Smith (at best).
I would like to see what happens if you sit a higher floor-low ceiling QB for 2 years behind Alex Smith. While in the interim it's not that funny...i think it would have the potential to be even more lulzy than starting Tebow next year, in terms of the sheer buildup. Like any great joke...it takes time to set up...
Or not. Whichever. |

This too. While Wilson has been a rookie sensation...with the style of game he plays and the relatively small $$$ figure attached to their starter as a mid-round rookie deal player...i think they'll be pretty content to just hold on to Flynn as a solid backup. Unless someone offers them something stupid in trade...and i really don't want to be the team that offers them something stupid in trade. |

Just because Barkley is pro-ready doesn't mean we should feel an obligation to start him considering this scenario... by the way I believe our first pick should be Jarvis Jones. And it doesn't have to be 1-2 years... hypothetically it could be 3 or 4 if Smith plays as well as he has been. Barkley has proven he can be good... he just has to prove himself in the NFL. And okay sure Smith sucked for most of his career but you can't ignore what he's done the past two years and the potential that he could bring to the team.
As far as free agency... other than Flacco I see no better option. I wouldn't be surprised if we drafted and signed a QB. Call me crazy, disagree or whatever... but I'm not stupid... at least when it comes to sports. And please never compare the acquisition of Tebow to anything I ever say. _________________

| I think Gus wants a running QB he said in an interview at the senior bowl that was why he brought in Fisch because he wanted to run that college style offense in Fisch was good at coaching it the only problem is who we going to get to run it. I think he wants someone like Russell Wilson and he said in his press conference that on offense they were goin to establish the run whether it be with the RB or QB. |

"Establishing the run" can be short passes, a la west coast style offense.
Also, Fisch has coached several different styles of offense in his career.
It seems more like he doesn't care whether we have a running QB or not, so long as the guy is effective. _________________

Change Barkley to anyone else and the idea will be slightly less bad. _________________

so are you inferring that flacco, the most bi-polar qb in the league, and/or kaepernik, who only gives you one good half a game, are elite qbs?
or are you inferring that the niners or ravens, neither of which have the #1 ranked defense this season, have "all decade" defenses?
i'll save you the trouble and answer those questions for you...no and no.
so...you don't need an elite qb or an all-decade defense to win a superbowl. it helps, sure, but not necessary.

Okay... forget players right now. What if I changed it to best FA QB and best draft QB? _________________
