Why would a guy like Osi not come to Tampa?

Could he not start the season for us, gives Calyborn even more time to get right and takes some pressure off if him.

Osi was also part of some monster lines in NY so he's used to sharing the spot light. At 31/32 I'm sure he doesn't expect to run the show wherever he goes, especially considering how quiet it has been for him.

Same thing can be said about Abraham, at 34 he would be perfect to give Clayborn more time and also boost our rush. Also getting the chance to spike Ryan off of the turf a few times a year couldn't hurt.

Osi is pretty much a lock for Atlanta. These vets want to come to a team that's ready for a Super Bowl. That's why I don't see Abraham coming here. Same with freeney.

Schiano said it himself, he wants Bowers to get double digit sacks. Unless he has another injury, I think he takes most of the snaps. Teo-Nesheim will most likely rotate with Clayborn. Why would they tie up millions in a DE that will just rotate in with Bowers when he needs a break?

Brick wall

You're not getting it. Defensive linemen rotate constantly to stay fresh. They don't just send in backups when one guy gets too tired. Of course Schiano wants Bowers to get double digit sacks, he's our only guy right now who could outside of Clayborn. Laughing

They will tie up millions in a defensive end because we absolutely sucked at rushing the passer last year, and now we let our leading sacker go. Hopefully Clayborn being back helps, but to hinge our entire ability to rush the passer on 2 young guys is stupid.

0% chance you lure a guy like Osi to be a 3rd down specialist for the most part (barring injury) to a non playoff team. While it's true defensive lineman do rotate quite a bit- I think that angle is being overplayed. Rotational lineman maybe play about 30% of the snaps a game which is why the studs get paid so much. If they were constantly rotating in and out there would be no need to give mega deals because they're not in majority of the game

But we're not talking about studs. We're talking about vets who are passed their prime and are still free agents.

yea I mean I'm all for adding a vet pass rushed through FA still. I think its needed- I just don't think we have a chance at someone like Osi who thinks he's the defensive player of the yr every year

Going after Osi was out of the question. Bill Sheridan and Osi could not get along when he was coaching as the DC a few years ago. Because of their relationship, it was kinda given that we weren't going to go after him.

I'm still trying to figure out what Tampa is going to do about the DT spot. We need a new nose tackle and Gary Gibson just isn't it.
