|

| Quote: | San Francisco kicker David Akers led the league in missed field goals in the regular season and missed his only field goal attempt in the NFC Championship Game. But Akers says his confidence remains high heading into the Super Bowl.
“Three inches to the right and I would have had a perfect game today,” Akers said after the 49ers beat the Falcons, via the San Francisco Chronicle. “All touchbacks, real deep balls so they couldn’t get returns. I felt really good going out and kicking the ball. I thought it would come in a little bit more. Again, it’s just one of those things I just keep scratching my head.” |
I really hope we don't need Akers in the Super Bowl. He is the weak spot on this team right now. We wouldn't have been near a heart attack at the end of yesterday's game if he made that kick. It was a 38 yarder, that should be money in the bank. _________________

he let Asante Samuel get into his head. That bum was jawing in his face right before the attempt. _________________

| Are the 49ers going to sign someone else? They'd be crazy to let Akers go into the SB right now. He has no confidence left, at all. |

Billy cundiff was the only attractive available kicker and we signed him two weeks ago and cut him a few days before the championship game. It's Akers at kicker for the Super Bowl. He will most likely be the first one cut in the offseason tho. Mind giving us Tynes?? _________________

I'd actually completely agree with Akers about the 3 inches from a perfect game thing. That is...if he hadn't missed the most field goals in the NFL this season.
I get what he's saying, but kickoffs don't put points on the board. They can be crucial, no doubt, but a field goal inside 50 yards should be money for the vast majority of kickers out there. Especially for a guy that broke records last year and tied for the longest one this year earlier in the season.
I kind of feel bad for him. However, this is my team. I want to win. We can find anyone to do kickoffs, especially since the spot was moved. We need to put up points when we can't convert on a third down, though. _________________

What's our 4th down conversion percent like? Has to be better than Akers FG percent. We can't kick any FG over 30 yards. _________________

When did you become an Akers fan? Stop defending him - we ccan't kick any FG over 20 yards.

I say we let Andy Lee kick FGs for us. I bet he'd do better than Akers.
Kicker controversy anyone?!?!?!?!? _________________

Who was the other kicker we brought in for the tryout. Either Maiocco or Barrows said he actually kicked really well. _________________

Cundiff and since he was waived, per nfl rules we can't re-sign him this season. _________________

I have no idea why we didn't sign Justin Medlock who went 21/22 in the kickoff against Billy Cundiff. _________________

Forgot about that
Apparently I made a drunk bet, which was caught on video. If Akers makes a game winning FG over 40 yards in the Super Bowl, I'm tattooing his name on my left cheek. _________________
