Aqib Talib is a free agent. Obviously the Patriots defense vastly improved when he arrived.
Nevertheless, he has had multiple off the field issues. The price will likely not be cheap either. |

Retain him on a 1 year deal if possible. _________________

YUP! Look at the before and after effect people. Not just on the season but last night. We continually say he "has" off field issues...he didnt in the what 8 games here. We can;t hold that over his head. As long as it doesn't kill us financially and he doesn't have the whole league as suitors there is no reason we don't bring him in on a 1 year "thank you" deal and then possibly have the following year be a Patriots option. But he drastically improved the secondary and helped with the McCourty transition. If we don't keep him than that is just another glaring hole to fill. _________________

I doubt he realistically will accept a one year contract. He is 26, and will likely be looking for a multiple year contract, since this is his first big payday.
He is not on the level of Nnamdi Asomugha. He is a good CB, and there will likely be other suitors. |

Definitley has...even his last season in OAK was subpar for his history of being "shut down". I would give Tlib his pay day before Wes but that's prolly just me. I love Wes for everything but with the change of times/schemes and our ability or hopeful ability to replace an elite WR over a CB that changed the image of our D like Talib is worse. To me its easier to replace Wes via draft with the depth at pass catchers we have over finding a guy like Talib with all our troubles i nthe secondary in past years. _________________

3 year deal with some good money should be his goal. No team will likely offer more than that. I would tag him and hope to come to an agreement if not. He's a beast.
Totally changed our secondary and did nothing but work his butt off. I want to see him in a patriots uniform for years. What he does schematically for the pats is huge. _________________

Definitley agree. I have two questions after that post.
1)Are there other Pats players who are considered "tag options" this year? Wes?
2) Do you all think Talib would feel disrespected with a franchise tag? I know he is looking for his first real pay day but if we respect him enough to do our due dilligence in keeping him for the year in hopes of keeping him in that Pats jersey long term as well. _________________

I don't think anybody gets tagged. They're not giving Talib $10.7M, Vollmer $9.7M, or Welker $11.4M. _________________ Shut up, NBT |

Yeah, those are steep prices for a one-year deal. As for the free agents, I'd order them as follows according to priority.
1. Talib
2. Welker
3. Vollmer
Pretty confident we can replace Vollmer. Not so confident we can replace Welker. No chance that we can replace Talib. _________________

The CB free agent market is pretty stacked. If Talib doesn't work out, then Keenan Lewis from Pitt makes a lot of sense. The Steelers are in cap hell enough without worrying about re-signing him. Sean Smith from Miami could make sense too. Brent Grimes, DRC, and Derek Cox are a few other options. _________________ Shut up, NBT |

Yeah, pretty much this. Whoever we put in at right tackle, Scar will have them ready to go. _________________

| I don't know that Talib is a must-sign but they absolutely have to add a veteran starting quality CB. |
