The CB free agent market is pretty stacked. If Talib doesn't work out, then Keenan Lewis from Pitt makes a lot of sense. The Steelers are in cap hell enough without worrying about re-signing him. Sean Smith from Miami could make sense too. Brent Grimes, DRC, and Derek Cox are a few other options. |
I meant with someone on the team. I'm not sure if any of the other options make as much sense sense though.
The mock offseason I was doing offline had us signing Lewis instead of Talib, but he and Sean Smith are definitely going to be more expensive. Lewis is probably already a better player, he's younger, he doesn't have the baggage. Smith wants something like 6/42 from the Dolphins, and Lewis turned down an extension because he wants to test the market. Is it worth it to get one of them? Derek Cox is has missed half his games due to injuries, and we have no idea if Brent Grimes will be the same player again. And pass on DRC. _________________

How is this even a question. We need to keep him. _________________

If they want to bring in a Brent Grimes and let Talib walk, be my guest. But if the front office wants to go the high draft pick route again at corner while letting a proven commodity like Talib go..... _________________

Wonder if Ras IR still be staying or cut.
At this point, I have just given up hope. _________________

Can't think they will go this route again. I'll be very frustrated if they do. |

I'm sure he'll get a chance to compete for a job in camp. |

re-sign him. with a whole off season to work out with the team and the system, he should be a better player next year.
he wasn't exactly the definition of a "shut down" corner this year, but he was physical and had a willingness to make plays. he brought some energy and swag to this team and the pats need to re-sign him.
as for our 2 other big FAs...id rather lock up vollmer before welker. not everyone is the physical freak vollmer is and although welker has been nothing short of fantastic, the offense needs to move on without him. |

And we most certainly should. "Can" we keep him is a different matter though.
And I actually completely forgot Dowling existed. _________________

And to think i wanted torrey smith over ras-i.
Re:thread - What in the world...YES he needs to come back!
Talib, Mccourtey, Dennard, and Arrington are damn decent nucleus for the secondary. Factor in our line backers & get one more decent defensive lineman and when healthy, our defense is pretty much set. _________________

Need a better SS and more depth.
Improving DL has to be a big focus. The pass "rush" last night was just awful. |

The problem is traditionally BB doesn't take players in the 1st round unless they are 3-down defensive linemen, but I'm not sure any of the 3-down defensive linemen you can get at #29 or later are impact pass rushers... _________________

I'm hoping for a veteran option. Not sure that it's a realistic hope, but I agree about the 1st round pick. |

Depth is obviously an issue, but thats not exclusive to the Patriots. Chandler Jones being hurt also explains a lot of the pass rush issues. Depth will always be a concern, & we could use improvement at SS.
But if our starting defense is Jones Wilfork Francis Ninkovich, Mayo Spikes Hightower, Talib Dennard, McCourtey Gregory, with Arrington as the nickel CB, and Chung, Dowling, Deadrick, Love, and co as depth?
I'm fairly satisfied with that. Francis and Gregory could be upgraded of course, but they're far from horrible. _________________

We need an impact interior rusher in the worst way. Deaderick and Love are useless pass rushers, and in Love's case not that good against the run either. I hope BB is willing to get a guy who doesn't fit his old-school vision of a defensive linemen who can get after the quarterback from inside. _________________
