| We are talking to him right now and I have wanted him all offseason if we can get him for less than 5 mil a year. What are your thoughts? I think this would allow us to not draft a middle linebacker 'til the 3rd or 4th round and try to develop him behind Urlacher. |

If Warren Sapp openly says he doesnt have the speed and he is done... then I guess he is.
All our hope is going to be spent on young guys from now on so there is none left for Urlacher as far as we go. _________________

1) Closer to a coach than an actual NFL player at this point. 2) Anywhere near 5 million is hugely overpaying. 3)I'd still take Arthur Brown to start at MLB with one of our 1sts. |

If he's cheap, I'd bring him in for Veteran presence; still would draft a LB . _________________

I think LB could then be put off until round 3 or later. It simply wouldnt be a starting need if Urlacher and Henderson are here. Probably need a player who could cover and step in during passing situations.
Id still prefer drafting a new starter and continuing with the youth movement. _________________

Urlacher is way too slow for this division's passing attack. That's why the Bears aren't interested. _________________

Urlacher has declined significantly in recent years, played only 12 games last season because of a hamstring injury and is looking for a deal in the range of $5.5 million, the Tribune reported.
Perhaps the Vikings are just trying to do what the Bears did to them with right tackle Phil Loadholt on Tuesday -- driving up the price for another NFC North Division team to re-sign its own player. According to the Chicago Tribune, the Vikings are "monitoring" the veteran's situation.
If Urlacher plays again, the most likely suitor may be the same team he's played for the past 13 years, although the Tribune reported he's also drawn interest from Arizona and Dallas. Bears general manager Phil Emery said at a Wednesday media conference the Bears have approached Urlacher about returning but his potential return "is an ongoing process."

"monitoring" the situation is a lot different than "talking to him," as the description this thread started out with.

I don't like it; he's slow and can no longer move sideline to sideline. He needs to be protected and we don't have the interior line to do it, yet. _________________

I am not a fan of this move, but he does bring a wealth of cover 2 experience. He might not have the athleticism he used to, but i would expect him to have top notch coverage instincts. at least better than Brinkley.
Id rather get younger at the position personally or go for Dansby. _________________

Maybe a hint at Ricks plan for the first round. Allen, Short? _________________
