you'd have every right to be pissed, but I don't know how much teams care about fringe players feelings.
The guy would still get a ring too.
that said, Tony probably would be rusty after sitting out a whole year, and it would make more sense to just give him a ring, without signing him for the playoffs. _________________

Tony's ring wouldn't be out of pity. The fringe guy's ring would be, but that was my point. Franchises don't really care about fringe guys. They'll cut guys or let them walk in FA like it's nothing. If he doesn't want the pity ring, he doesn't have to take it, but why should the franchise care? _________________

I can't tell if you're laughing because it's true and funny, or laughing because you don't think it's true.
I'm sure the team would give a fringe guy a ring if he'd been a part of the team for any significant amount of time. Teams really aren't all that stingy with rings, they're pretty generous with them actually. _________________
