Lotulelei could play NT or either DE spot in the 3-4. Do we look at this guy with our #6/minor trade down selection?
The guy is a Haloti Ngata clone but may be a better athlete. Is he even on the Browns radar, given he would for my money, be the BPA on defense in terms of a 3-4 player?
Sure, we have a million DT's, but Lotulelei is a perfect fit for the 3-4, whereas we would be plugging in guys and hoping they fit currently.
Lotulelei is a monster and would make teams kill themselves in the film room as they gameplan to go up against a front of
DE: Taylor/Rucker
NT: Rubin/Winn/Hughes
DE: Lotulelei/Rucker
I know we need pass rush linebackers more, and I would probably advocate going rush LB at #6-#12 range, but is Lotulelei a guy who we would consider going after?
You can't tell me he isn't a better player than Dion Jordan or Barkevious Mingo or Jarvis Jones, but I do understand positional value of a 3-4 DE is not as high as a 3-4 OLB.
Thoughts? |

IMO he's a damned good prospect, especially for the 3-4. We don't have a pressing need at that position, but I'm not going to pass on Ngata for a Kamerion Wimbley....again (that is, if the FO deems him a Ngata clone).
There are far worse moves this FO can make than taking a really good DE.
Taylor-Rubin-Star would be be the best 3 man line in the NFL, probably from day 1. _________________

If Star grades out higher than any of the passrushers available at our pick, we should take him. Haloti Ngata twice a year is enough of a reminder.
That D-line would be filthy. Can Sheard play OLB in a 34? |

Don't see any reason why not. He's not going to be Joey Porter or James Harrison right away, but I think he would be solid against the run and provide a decent pass rush.
IIRC, he was one of the higher rated 3-4 OLB prospects in his draft class. I'd be lying if I said I was paying much attention then as we were running an even front. _________________

I think Sheard could transition to that DE/OLB type, but he's not versatile enough to be the #1 Hybrid Rusher that we need.
We would probably have to move Gocong inside with D'Qwell and have JMJ be the primary ILB backup...and there aren't any guys on this roster that have the ability to play that Rush LB that currently play DE (Rucker-Stephens-Davis).
If we went Star in the 1st, we should look at Connor Barwin in FA as our other pass rush LB. |

| I'm warming more and more to the idea of Lotulelei has our pick. That line would be a real AFC North D-line and would set the tone for the back end of the defense. Add a solid #2 corner in FA and it's looking very good. |

DE: Taylor/Hughes
NT: Rubin/Kitchen
DE: Lotulelei/Winn
Thats one mean 34 DL.
The biggest issue for me is our DBs, but if we can fill those holes in FA than I would love get Star. _________________

Remember watching this live. After a terrible call by the refs, the momentum swings Michigans way... then that happens on the very next play.
As far as Star, realistically what are the chances of him making it to 6?
KC - Geno
Jacksonville - DE?
Raiders - Could he go here? Maybe they look towards Jarvis Jones if his health checks out
Eagles - They drafted Cox last year so no DT you'd think
Lions - Suh and Fairley, no way they look at Star |

If he makes it past OAK, he will be there at 6. _________________ 2013 First Ballot Recipient of the Joe Blackburn Award |

Star is basically a Ngata clone, think that's a great comparison.
Because of that, no way he makes it out of the top 4 picks unless some crazy hijinx go down (like two QBs getting picked or someone rolling the dice on Mingo/Jordan). _________________

and OAK could go DT, DE, CB, .... QB, or anything in between. no idea which direction they go right now. _________________

If he somehow (doubt it) is available to us at #6, we take him in a heartbeat.

i say OLB is to much of a need to pass up of another DL.
I would say yes if he was that much better than the OLBs but he really isnt. There is still a lot of time for him to maybe create that separation from the LBs but I actually see the LBs surpassing him with combine and workouts _________________
