Cork's Twitter
| Quote: | | Breaking news: Raiders hire Greg Olson to be their offensive coordinator, according to person familiar with the situation. |
https://twitter.com/CorkOnTheNFL/status/292521399136956416
He was OC for the Bucs from 2009 - 2011 and QB coach for the Jags last year.
Thoughts?
More quotes from Cork:
| Quote: | Greg Olson is bringing back the power blocking and downhill runs favored by RB Darren McFadden. Say good-bye to the zone-blocking scheme.
Greg Olson also coached some guy named Drew Brees when they were at Purdue. RB Steven Jackson had his best season in Olson's offense.
Greg Olson has six years' experience as an NFL offensive coordinator -- Lions, Rams and Buccaneers. Worked wonders with QB Josh Freeman. |

Somewhere in The OC thread I posted his offensive production ratings the last three years he was an OC. Average ranking around 26th. Angry doesn't begin to explain how I feel... _________________

This guy better perform better than his resume would suggest, because otherwise I dont see DA sticking around for to much longer with brutal personnel decisions. _________________ First jersey purchased: Jamarcus Russell.

So much for there being other candidates we didn't know about yet. Another unspectacular OC hire for an unspectacular head coach. Not surprised though. Probably came down to him or Martz. _________________

Ironically, the same day our former OC was hired to be a QB coach of another team _________________ If the Raiders don't trade back at 3, I want Fisher, Ziggy, or Star. |

Welp. Not an exciting hire but I preferred Olson to Martz. I think I would have rather had Mularkey, I wonder where he'll land.
I like what he did with Freeman (and Tampa's offense as a whole), not so much Gabbert or Jacksonville. But all players are different. Could just be that Bucs were more talented than the Jags. One thing to keep in mind is that while Gabbert struggled, Olson seemed to get the most out of Chad Henne once Gabbert went down. Jacksonville was limited without MJD, no question. So his time in Jax doesn't scare me off too much. _________________

He's an OC now, not a QB coach. _________________

Its funny how guys will try and dog out this guy's credentials when they were just made aware of his existance a few days ago. We are officially becoming the whining-est fans in the league. How about seeing the guy perform here before you guys start with your chicken little routine. If you guys were Pats fans you would have wanted to run Belecheck out of town as soon as he stepped off the plane from Cleveland. _________________

Well can you honestly blame us fans for not being thrilled with a hiring like this? Especially after a completely lacklustre OC hiring this time last year. What else are we supposed to judge the guy on besides his credentials at this point? Sure we can and will have to wait to see how this turns out, but at this point in time I dont see how anyone can be satisfied with this hiring knowing what he has "accomplished" in the past. _________________ First jersey purchased: Jamarcus Russell.

I can most definitely blame Raider fans for bit*hing and moaning all the dang time. Answer me a question. What had Belicheck accomplished as a HC before he got to New England? My point is that we do not know what set of curcumstances were in play in his other stops. No earthly clue. What was the personnel like? Who was assembling the talent? What did the guy have at his disposal?
I hear people complaining about the guy because Gabbert was crap. Well hell, Gabbert was crap before the guy got there and he will be crap now that he is gone. How is that an indictment of this guy as a coach? You can't make chicken salad out of chicken bleep. Its like judging Reggie's ability to manage the cap after being left with the crap that he started with here.
Give the negativity a rest and see for yourself how the guy performs. _________________
