I think we may need a new offseason discussion now that we know where this team is going and who is leading us.
When Trestman was in Canada he was not hands on with the personnel he told the GM what he needed and then coached the players that were there.
1. I think we are going to see a heavy investment on the offence.
2. I think with Kromer and Trestman's desire to protect the QB that we will see some serious OL investment.
3. Based in what I have seen from Trestman in Canada and from Kromer in NO we should expect some big boys on the OL and especially on the interior. I was to small for Trestman at OT and I am 6'5" 310lbs.

Can you catch a ball, though? You can play tackle-eligible. |

Isn't Mike Tice also a guy who wants big linemen? It should b an easy transition then? I just think our guys suck..
I think TE and OL will be big investments via draft and FA.
Options look to be:
Zach Miller
Branden Alberts
Stebiasn Volmer
Jerrod Busch

In Canada he used a TE on a limited basis, NO one in the CFL uses a TE, and he was a smaller RB type like Hernandez.
I would expect guys like Fluker and Warford become OG targets as they have the size that Kromer and Trestman like.

I could see them going for Warford, or Travis Frederick, guys like that would help the interior line tremendously.

But in the NFL the TE is a big part of most WCO right?

But in the NFL the TE is a big part of most WCO right? |
Brent Jones was a borderline HOFer in SF. Shannon Sharpe is a HOF TE from the WCO. Mark Chmura, Keith Jackson, Bubba Franks, all pro TEs in the WCO. B/c the offense attacks the middle of the field the TE is a big part of it.

If Trestman wasn't used to using a Tight End in the CFL, hopefully he intends to use one here. There are two huge elements that a good TE could bring to an offense:
1) A safety blanket. When things break down, a lot of top QB's have a tight end they can look for; guys like Gronk, Jimmy Graham, Tony Gonzalez, Zach Miller, Martellus Bennett (who is a FA) all provide an outlet to gain yards when we'd otherwise have a throw-away or a sack.
2) A matchup nightmare. If we have a tight end who is a real threat, I'll use Tyler Eifert as a potential example, we can split them out to be guarded by smaller defensive backs, or keep him in and have him guarded by slower linebackers or safeties.
I'm very hopeful that somebody as intelligent as Trestman realizes this, and asks Emery to find a talented guy to serve these roles. For the record, Tyler Eifert is who I'm looking at. |

That's a good point about Martellus Bennett. He sucked in Dallas, but did pretty well in NY this year. He's not my top choice, but he's definitely someone who could provide an upgrade over Davis if all the other FA TEs get tagged or signed.

He was always behind Witten in Dallas, who is somebody who I forgot from that list in my OP. But once Bennett got to NY, Eli used him very much as a safety outlet, and as you mentioned, proved to be capable and productive. |

He probably will use a TE.
In the CFL there is not TE ever and he is the only guy to use it a little.

I thought Fluker played very well late in the season.
He dominated Stephon Tuitt in the National Championship game and many speak of him as a 1st round pick.
He is an ELITE athlete for a man at 6'6" 350lbs.
I think he can play RT.
But I think he could be a Carl Nicks type of OG. You cannot teach a man to be this big and nasty.

I see some Nicks in him. I really like Fluker. I'm not sold on him as a RT though. |

I see some Nicks in him. I really like Fluker. I'm not sold on him as a RT though. |
If we sign Bushrod I would target Fluker to play LG.
He has the size power and feet to create the pocket that Trestman and Komar will want.
