Its been rumored and makes too much sense to make the move. Hopefully this is a situation Marinelli is happy enough with.

I love having Marinelli here, and one of the best parts is knowing that there is almost no chance that anyone will consider hiring him away from us to be a head coach. And he's already got the asst. hc tag so teams can't use that to pry him away.
Glad he's staying, we need that continuity.

That doesn't mean anything. There are only two tiers of coaches - 'Head Coach' and 'Assistant Coach'. The only move that is considered a promotion, is a move to Head Coach. They changed the rules a few years ago so that the silly 'Asst to the Asst Head Coach' titles don't mean anything anymore.
The only move that teams can't block is a move to HC, everything else can be blocked by teams.

Rod only took the DC job as a personal favor to Lovie, he feels he's best coaching the DL so there is a strong possibility if Lovie gets even just a DC job, Hot Rod goes w/ him.
John Hoke has to be the backup plan at DC.

Re-sign, not coach and not get paid.
Option 2
Stay, coach HIS players on defense.
I think he will stay.

I'm sure he'd get another DC job if he resigned. There are still 3 teams without coaching staffs and it's still possible that Lovie gets hired.

There are 32 teams in the NFL that would love to have Rod Marinelli coach their DL, if he resigns, he'll be coaching somewhere else.
