Trestman also was an OC in the NFL. Was Cardinals OC from 98 to 200 then Oakland OC from 2001 to 2003. Plus more. Was around the NFL for a good while. Surprised most people don't remember him. |
Also worked with Steve Young in San Fran. _________________

Keep in mind Bears fans:
- Glowing reports from every QB he's worked with
- Prospects work with him almost every year
- Guy is very creative, very vocal and direct
- Considered a great offensive mind by his peers
- Rich Gannon, Steve Young have a lot of their success under him
- Cutler spoke quite fondly of Trestman after his brief meeting during the Bears interview
In my opinion, a great hire. This is the guy who can get the most out of Jay Cutler. Emery had a plan, he's sticking to it. I feel like this is what good teams do - excuse me if I'm wrong. _________________ Newest Mock Draft .:. 1.11.13

He's lead one of the most prolific offenses in the CFL for the last couple years I'm pretty sure. That may not count for too much, but as people have pointed out, he also has extensive experience at the NFL level.
I applaud the Bears for looking outside the normal parameters and trying to find the right guy. Hope it works out. _________________

On the other hand...
| Selkiesxx wrote: | Keep in mind Bears fans:
- Prospects work with him almost every year | On his website, he lists his success stories. None of them are successes. Seems to me that the ones he himself highlights would be the best ones, right? Nothing really good there. If his website tells us anything, it's that he's good at making busts look like first rounders on the practice field, screwing the teams that draft them.
| Quote: | - Rich Gannon, Steve Young have a lot of their success under him
| They were both successful before their teams hired him. Steve Young was the best QB in the league for four years straight, then had his two worst seasons as the 49ers starter when Trestman took over as OC. His completion %, YPA, and passer rating all went down. When Trestman was let go, they all went back up. Gannon had already been turned into a good QB two years earlier by Jon Gruden. All Trestman did was inherit him.
It's also interesting that when each of those teams let him go, no team would give him a job as a coordinator the next season.

- Cutler spoke quite fondly of Trestman after his brief meeting during the Bears interview | This is all Cutler said:
Cutler worked with Trestman before he came into the NFL, "kind of before you know what you like and what you don't like," indicating it would be "not really fair for me" to give real assessment of the coach.
"I enjoyed my time with him," Cutler said. "But I don't know what system he does. He's been up in Canada."
I wouldn't call that speaking fondly. I'd call that being very careful to say nothing at all. They don't really know each other. They only met a few times to prep Jay for the combine. |

Almost everyone is going to be excited about the new HC that their favorite teams hire. It's just the way that it goes. With these first time NFL HC's, we really just have to see how well of a job they do before saying that it was a good/bad hire. I think with experienced HC's that get hired by a new team you can make quicker judgements. You can evaluate if the team/situation is a good fit for the coach. But with first timers, you just have to wait and see. We'll see if Trestman can do a better job than Lovie did. _________________

A very good coaching prospect landing in a very good situation with Emery. A lot to like if you're a Bears fan. _________________

This news does not make me happy as a Lions fan.
Great offensive mind. Great hire. _________________ AAL: DeAndre Levy 31 Tackles

Will Emery and Trestman make the Bears competetive in 2013?
The Bears have a corp of excellent talent.
Can E & T obtain the free agents and draft picks to compete in the NFC N?
Or is this transition about Packers dominance, Viking WC's and Lions and Bears fighting over 3rd and 4th? _________________ "I have to keep playing so people over 40 will have somebody to root for on Sunday afternoons." George Blanda who played until he was 46 |
