What's your personal realistic best case scenario for the team next season? Doesn't have to be a full mock offseason, just the immediate starters.
Trade: Long for 1st (tag), Bess for 4th
Resign: Hartline, Smith
FA: WR Wallace, DE Bennett, WR Rainey
Draft:
1 Jonathan Cooper, OG, North Carolina
1 Terrance Williams, WR, Baylor
2 D.J. Fluker, OT, Alabama
2 Brandon Jenkins, DE, FSU
3 Tyrann Mathieu, CB, LSU
3 - 7 depth
By trading back or up to get them for good value, ex. trading back to get Terrance Williams in the late 1st.
Draft:
QB: Tannehill, Moore
RB: Bush, Miller, Thomas
WR: Wallace (FA), Hartline (FA), Williams (R), Matthews, Rainey (FA), Thigpen
FB: Lane
TE: Clay, Fasano, Egnew
OL: Martin, Incognito, Pouncey, Cooper (R), Fluker (R)
DE: Wake, Bennett (FA), Vernon
DT: Soliai, Odrick
LB: Bennett, Dansby, Misi / Vernon
CB: Smith (FA), Stanford, Mathieu (R), Carroll, Wilson
S: Jones, Clemons
KR/PR: Thigpen
K: Carpenter

Im sorry. You ask for realistic and then tag and trade Long for a 1st? Which team in their right mind trade for Long when his salary demands will be as the #1 OL in the league?
dont get me wrong, Long is a very good player but his injuries have piled up and he is no longer the top LT in the league.

I'm guessing since Matt Moore is on the roster that you're going to be re-signing him as well? The same goes for Fasano. Both of those guys are FA's this year. I think we need an upgrade at TE bad. I really like Clay, but I want to see some new blood in there with him. I don't like Rainey at all. He's a good college player that will never transition, IMO. I really like to Cooper and Fluker picks. Mathieu in the 3rd round is a nice pickup as well. He does have character issues, but he says he has "changed". I'm not completely sold on Mike Wallace, but if we were to sign him I guess I'd be okay with that. I want to see a little more height with our WRs. Speed is good too. _________________

Not really in my knowledge base, but the kids are home with the flu and while they are laid up occupying the TV I thought I would give this a go….
I’m going into this with the understanding that not every area can be addressed in one off-season. It is evident that the team has more holes then can be filled even with the teams cap space and numerous draft picks.
Franchise Tag: Jake Long (while he’s not worth the money there are too many hole to fill to let him go, tagging him will allow the Dolphins to address the LT position next off-season)
Free Agency
Reggie Bush RB
Brian Hartline WR
Sean Smith CB
Matt Moore QB
Dwayne Bowe WR
Andy Levitre OG
Dustin Keller TE
Draft
Round 1: Chance Warmack OG
Round 2: Ezekiel Ansah DE
Round 2: Matt Elam S
Round 3: Blibi Wren-Wilson CB
Round 3: Quinton Patton WR
Round 4: Xavier Nixon T
Rounds 5 – 7 Depth (not even going to attempt to pretend I know the guys who will go in these rounds)
Offense
QB: Tannehill
RB: Bush
WR: Bowe FA
WR: Hartline FA
WR: Bess
TE: Keller FA
T: Long FA(T)
G: Warmack R
C: Pouncey
G: Levitre
T: Martin
Defense
DE: Wake
DT: Odrick
DT: Soliai
DE: Ansah R
LB: Burnett
LB: Dansby
LB: Misi
CB: Smith
S: Jones
S: Elam R
CB: Wren Wilson R _________________

There is no market for Long. There is a more realistic chance the Dolphins resign Long than there is that they are able to trade him.
At this point in time:
Sign Greg Jennings, Rob Jackson, Chad Rinehart, Bradley Fletcher Isaac Redmon/Chris Ivory if Bush walks, explore Delanie Walker
Resign: Hartline, Clemons, Fasano, Garner
DRAFT:
1. Johnathon Banks- Miss St.
2A. Zach Ertz- Stanford
2B. Markus Wheaton- Oregon State
3A. Tank Carradine- FSU
3B. Kyle Long- Oregon
4. Find an OG
I know I signed/resigned a lot. Jennings will get big money, and besides that everyone else will make $5 million per year or less. I am being fiscally responsible and making a splash.
QB: Tannehill
RB: Miller/Ivory/Thomas/Thigpen
FB: Clay
WR: Jennings/Hartline/Wheaton/Bess
TE: Fasano/Ertz/Egnew
LT: Martin
LG: Incognito
C: Pouncey
RG: Garner/Rookie
RT: Jerry/Kyle Long
DE: Wake/Vernon (I see him as a JACK so I don't know where to put him exactly)
DT: Odick/Randall
DT: Soliai/Alexsih
DE: Misi (I think he is a better 4-3 DE, eliminates his coverage flaws)/Carradine (Great at beating 1/1 blocks he will see across from Wake. I think he is a diamond in the rough)
OLB: Burnett
MLB: Dansby
OLB: Jackson (Fits the versatility that this LB corp is based on. 4.5 sacks, 4 INT as a part time player, I think he helps pass rush and coverage. My "must get" FA. Will be allowed to walk. Very athletic.)
CB: Johnathon Banks
FS: Chris Clemons
SS: Reshad Jones
CB: Bradley Fletcher
Nickel: Richard Marshall
Dime: Try to restructure Patterson, otherwise Wilson or a rookie. _________________

Ertz and wheaton in round 2 is a realistic dream and to sign jennings and have wheaton to be able to learn from him and grow with tannehill gets me excited. I am ok with jennings if we draft a young WR to go with it. Kyle long might not make it to the 3rd but if we have to trade up a bit to get him lets do it he has special skills. Kevin Wiedel a espn scout thinks he will be the best offensive lineman in this draft in 3 years. Getting bradley fletcher and drafting banks who can start right away and a healthy Marshall is a secondary upgrade and gets us off the hook of having to over pay for Smith. My favorite mock so far

Dream......
1. Dee Miliner CB
2. Zach Ertz TE or Tyler Eifert TE
2. Tavon Austin WR
3. Guard
3. Tackle
4-7. BPA
Free Agency
WR - Greg Jennings
TE - Jermichael Finley or Cook
WR - Brian Hartline
CB - Sean Smith
Theory
Moving Smith to #2 CB makes him and the #1 CB spot so much better.
Grabbing Jennings is a great pickup, plus he seems like the Donald Driver type. An all pro guy. Comes in, shows our WR's how to be winners and he is only 30. Austin becomes the boom player.
Getting 2 TE's with big red zone opportunity is a great way to improve our 'big boy football'.
Still need some better Oline play and depth, but I think this is a good start.
IF Miliner is gone by #12, I would try the trade down to get a few picks next year. Seems like it could be a good draft with all the guys staying in school this year. _________________ - "Who, I love Rich Camarillo." Quote from the Fish's play by play crew. |

People STILL do not understand the tag and trade is NOT realistic. Long would be making 15.8 million- no one would even have the cap space to do that. Other than that I'm not drafting any OG at 12 if their name isn't Chance Warmack. Like Cooper but not worth that high of a pick. Rather them go...
1) Warmack/C.Patterson
2A) DeAndre Hopkins/Barrett Jones
2b) Ertz/X.Rhodes/D. Trufant |

I use to think like you on the Long issue but I guarantee you if Long becomes a free agent he will be compensated among the top 3 LT's in the league. So, we can all point to his increased injuries as a sign the end is near but I predict Miami will franchise him and not trade him.
We should also note, Long was never the top LT in the league. He was always one of them. Surely we cannot measure "top LT" by pro bowls. We have seen with all the backouts, being elected to a pro bowl means nothng. _________________ "Yesterday Is History, Tomorrow Is A Mystery, And Today Is A Gift. So, who's going to give up a good pick AND pay a top 3 contract at the position for the 6th best OT on the market this offseason? |
