With the hiring of Monte Kiffin as our DC and the switching from a 3-4 defense back to the 4-3 defense and its many different looks and coverages that go with it. It appears that our offseason needs have changed drastically. So, lets start up a new thread here for our new needs, instead of a 55 page thread of our old needs.

So, what are we looking at?

Pass Rush Defensive Tackle?
Defensive End?
Free Safety?
Offensive Tackle?
Offensive Guard?
Quarterback (to groom)?

How would you rank in order of precedence?

Who are the free agents that fit those needs?

What draft prospects you like that fit those needs?

I did a paper on this, does this give me leave to post it here now and not violate the rules? Laughing

At this point, I think our needs are as follows:

1. Interior OL
2. Defensive Tackle
3. Free Safety
4. Right Tackle
5. QB to groom

I'm looking forward to seeing Crawford and Church in this scheme, as I believe they both will see their potential maximized under Kiffin.

I don't know where to begin just yet. I will have to do some digging on this one. However, I would be wide open to the options of trading some of our underachieving veteran players for extra picks at this point ie: Austin for 3rd or 4th, Ratliff for a 5th or 6th, Spears for the same. We could package those picks and move up to get an extra 3rd or 4th. Then we could draft:

1st
2nd
3rd a
3rd b (Austin)
4th a
4th b (package a 5th & 6th-Ratliff/ Spears)
5th
6th

I would also look at OG L. Vasquez and RB S. Greene as FA.

Be back with the rest later.

At this point, there is not a single position where we couldn't get a boost from a talented player.

I would go true BPA throughout the draft (likely with the exception of an RB in the first two rounds).

If we had that many picks I would try and make it look something like this....

1st Warmack / Cooper
2nd Floyd / Dallas Thomas
3rd a Phillip Thomas
3rd b Chris Faulk
4th a Joe Kruger
4th b (package a 5th & 6th-Ratliff/ Spears) Everette Dawkins
5th Spencer Ware
6th JJ Wilcox

I feel like offensive line is our biggest need even if we are still switching back to the 4-3 defense. I feel like this draft is reasonably loaded with talent in positions of need, for once. We have players that came from 4-3's in college ball like Ware, Ratliff, Lee, Carter, Crawford, and a few others I'm sure. It SHOULDN'T be that big of a set-back, especially since we now have a full offseason to learn the new defense. I feel like finding an OLB to play with Lee and Carter becomes a need and so does finding a younger talent on the DL. Safety is also a need but I feel like we can good a decent one in the 3rd. Trenches is where ball games are decided, IMO, and we need lineman.

Here are my prospects for the first 2 rounds.
Round 1:

Chance Warmack G Bama'
Johnathan Cooper G/C UNC
Barrett Jones C/G Bama'
Kenny Vaccaro S Texas
Sheldon Richardson DT/DE Mizzou
Johnathan Hankins DT Ohio St
Sam Montgomery DE LSU
Barkevious Mingo DE LSU
Matt Elam S Florida
John Jenkins NT/DT Georgia
Dion Jordan DE Oregon

Round 2:
Barrett Jones C/G (seen him slip in previous mocks before foot injury)
Tavon Austin WR/KR/PR WVU
D.J. Fluker T/G Bama'
Eric Reid S LSU
Sylvester Williams DT UNC
Larry Warford G Kentucky
Eddie Lacy RB Bama'
Margus Hunt DE/DT SMU
Kawaan Short DT Purdue
Phillip Thomas S Fresno St
Jesse Williams DT Bama'
Dallas Thomas G/T Tennessee
Shariff Floyd DT Florida
Lane Johnson T Oklahoma
Bennie Logan DT LSU
Tony Jefferson S Oklahoma
Alex Okafor DE Texas
Corey Lemonier DE Auburn

Needs

1A. My overall offseason "need" is a new play caller, but ill keep it to players:

1. Interior Offensive line help
2. Defensive end/ Defensive tackle
3. Free Safety
4. Offensive Tackle
5. back up running back
6. SOLB
7. Quarterback to groom

Just a few Free Agent running backs I would like to throw out.

Running Back: Kevin Smith, Danny Woodhead, Jackie Battle,

I dont think we will be able to afford much in free agency so I wont list anything more. Once we get a clearer idea on the cap situation I will comment further on guys that i think we can afford in FA. Later on in the season I will focus on the draft tremendously and give more insight at that time, because we will have to rely on the draft picks working out this season.

J Rowskee...It isn't a setback at all switching to the 4-3. This team is so depleted on the d line because of neglect in the draft , new d linemen were needed anyway.

Both lines are so bad it is imperative to rebuild both of them. Hard to do in one draft. It's easier in fact to draft for the 4-3 so Dallas shouldn't be spending 7 years looking for the perfect lb combination while ignoring the other position groups.

If we are going to keep Romo I agree that the o line should be first.

Did some research on DE free agent on Michael Johnson and found this
Quote:
Bengals.com considers free agent RE Michael Johnson "the leader in the clubhouse" to draw the franchise tag if there's no contract extension by March

http://www.fantasysp.com/player/nfl/Michael_Johnson/2625749/bengalscom-considers-free-agent-re-michael-johnson-quotthe

Didn't seem likely he would make it to the free agent market, but now its certain that he won't.

I would imagine that Henry Melton will be tagged if not extended as well, though it would be crazy if we could get him
