| Quote: | Yesterday, NFL Network's Mike Mayock was on Brian Baldinger's show on 97.5 The Fanatic:
"I would probably be inclined to agree with my buddy D!ck Vermeil," said Mayock. "I think you load up the truck, and you get in it with a bunch of money and you drive down and find Jon Gruden at the fired football coaches association of America." |
| Quote: | Brian Baldinger jumped in to say he agreed.
"Thank you. I've been saying this for 2 weeks now. Stop the search! I realize that this is probably a necessary process, but there's a guy out there that has the proven track record that everybody wants. And I don't think you can underscore this. He's sat in this production meetings and picked the brains of the best coaches and coordinators and all of the innovative ideas... and he's figuring all the trends, all his weaknesses and how to incorporate these things. I don't think there's anyone more ready to jump back in than Jon." | There's more quotes from Mayock about Chucky in the link.
So as for going on the record about Jon Gruden as the best choice for the Eagles, the list now includes Jaws, Vermeil, Mayock and Baldy. |
These talking heads fail to acknowledge the states that he left Tampa Bay and Oakland in - he collectively sank two franchises - granted he got one a championship... Using Tony Dungy's team.
Plus, with Jon Gruden likely comes Michael Vick - he loves Vick.

Cleveland. Nice hire for Cleveland. I believe his style of offense is suited to bringing out the best in very average QB's. |
Agreed, power running game and vertical passing is what suits the Browns IMO. And I am impressed with Josh Gordon at WR, I think he can be great.
They already seem built or Norvs style, the outside receivers are both 6'3" they have a running back you can feed 25 times a game, strong armed QB and a vertical threat TE. They could have a winning record.
I think the most important hire for them is retaining Jauron. He had that defense playing at a high level all year without any superstars (joe Haden missed most of the year). |
Exactly why I want Richard...especially if we're going with an offensive minded HC. |
I couldn't agree more, he's the best DC out there IMO. |

Gotta love the part when Baldy says, " a guy with a proven track record that everybody wants" and that guy hasn't had an interview with a pro team in half a decade. Epic! _________________

I wish Mayock didn't say that...Honestly I could care less about Baldy and Vermeil's opinion.
And Gruden doesn't love MV...he said the Eagles didn't do a good job helping MV (MNF vs Saints) _________________

Now I know Gruden gushes over almost every player, but his love of Mike Vick is completely over-the-top - I wish I had actual quotes, but I can remember a few times gagging on the superlatives (on good plays) and astounding excuses (on bad plays)... |

It's his job to sound extremely excited about everyone. I don't read into that as "loving him so much he would have to keep him" (if he were hired).
He was gushing over Tebow too. You think he would demand a trade for him if he were hired? _________________

At least part of it was he loved the Starship 7 nickname he came with. _________________

Hold on. Normally I would agree with you but Gruden has a history of giving away draft picks for nothing and collecting vets. He has never shown he can cultivate young talent but he has shown he likes to collect players that are past their prime. _________________

I don't want Gruden, I also don't believe any HC is going to attach themselves to MV with that price tag. Now if he restructures and beats out Nick Foles, Edwards or whomever in camp that's a different story.
What's this I read (in another thread) about McCoy having a bad interview? _________________

His crappy track record in that area or not, no coach in their right mind would keep Vick for $16M next season.
But this is all speculation anyway, as Gruden hasn't even been interviewed. The first question Howie and Lurie would ask is "you don't want to keep Vick, right?" _________________

Am I the only one who thinks Gruden would be perfect in Chicago?
Have him hire Monte Kiffin as DC to run the same system. He has a vet QB and great WR. Great RB who can catch.
And his personality would mesh well with Chicago.

Oh and for the record, I don't want Chucky or his brother as HC. _________________

Hm....Yea he would coaching wise, but I don't think The McCaskey's would fork over the money to pry him away from ESPN. _________________

Having lived through the Gruden era down here in Tampa and knowing several of the players that played foe him, I would say Gruden isn't good for any NFL team unless you are trying to drive the franchise into the ground. He is one of the few people that thinks he is bigger then the game. _________________
